Supplements

Hi,

Has anyone tried either of these supplements on their cats:-

Grau Cat Care plus stomach/intestine Herb Paste

Beaphar Multi-vit paste with Taurine

I notice in the list of the ingredients the Beaphar contains milk and dairy products, which is odd as most cats cannot tolerate milk & dairy products.

I am looking for a way to supplement Taurine that my cat, who is fed a mainly home cooked diet, will accept. When I mix the powder with water & put in his food he refused to eat it after the first time. I don't blame him as Taurine does definitely have a taste to it, not pleasant. I have taken it myself, and even a small dose made me feel nauseous about half an hour later.

I have had no success in getting him to eat raw meat, only cooked. Luckily he is now eating some quality canned food such as Grau, so is getting some Taurine in that.

Woldsway raw meat suppliers say they are getting chicken hearts in after Christmas, so am hoping to get some, and give him a little every meal.

But I notice someone on the Taurine sticky said they give their cats a treat of prawns for Taurine. Presumably cooked prawns - I would not like to feed raw prawns. Do Atlantic prawns contain a large amount of Taurine does anyone know?

If prawns are a good way to get extra Taurine into him I'd rather do that than use a supplement. I dislike supplements for cats as I have had little success with them over the years. Either my cats detect them in their food and refuse to eat, or they get side effects such as diarrhoea e.g. from the probiotic supplements.
