Need help in cat food

I bought some raw food (Natural Instinct) for my cats today to try. At the moment they are eating Natures Menu wet food and Royal Canin biscuits. I want to stop the Royal Canin biscuits as I believe they are not that good for cats?? Can anyone advise any biscuits that are good for cats??

Why continue feeding dry food when your cats eat raw and wet food? Just cut it out

There aren't any that are good for cats - dry is inherently bad 0 but you can get better dry - but as hobbs says if they eat raw and wet shy feed dry (it doesn't clean their teeth - that is a fallacy)

Re: Need help in cat food

I think the grain free varities - Applaws, Encore, Orijen, Acana - are generally believed to be better than brands such as Royal Canin, but many people believe that dry food is never 'good' as such.
That said, I do still feed a small amount of dry to mine...if only so that if I ever need a cat sitter it can be an easy feed option.
You may find this article of interest though which seems to address the issue
Feed Raw and Dry at the Same Time?

BTW, do they like the NI mince?

Re: Need help in cat food

The vet told me to cut the biscuits out as well. She said that she was worried about Sammys teeth. He really loves his biscuits and I feel bad to cut it out completely. I tried them both on the NI Chicken and beef and they both turned these noses up at it I think im going to have to take him for a dental. Tosca had a dental a few months ago but I worry about Sammy as he is a really nervous cat since I got him from the rescue home.

Re: Need help in cat food

Have you tried grinding up a few of their favourite biscuits and using that as a tempting topping for the mince? I use freeze dried treats for this ( used to use Thrive but now PAH own brand at half the price ) and it really entices them to tuck in. Basically the fresh meat just does not smell strongly enough to them if they are used to the strong aroma of kibble.
Obviously if their teeth are troublesome you really need them to start chewing on chunks of meat, or meat on the bone such as chicken wings.

Chicken wings are what I would call fairly advanced for raw feeding.....why not start off with some plain chicken breast or thigh meat cut into smallish slithers....building up to larger chunks. Or if they like beef, some stewing steak again cut into smallish pieces. If you do try wings, cut it into sections along the length of the bone so that the meat is exposed.
While mince is good as it contains none of the starch or sugars that commercial foods do, you really need the abrasive action of chunks ( and eventually bones ) to clean the teeth and massage the gums.
