Question Advice on Best Dried Food

Hi all

I know you don't agree on feeding dry only but 1 of my kittens cannot eat wet due to it gives her severe runs, found that dry food agrees with her. Currently on Royal Canin babycat 34, due to them coming up to 16 weeks need to change onto the next one up, Royal Canin Kitten 36 is this any good? Been advise that Hills Science plan is good but every time I mix more in with their current food it bungs the other kitten up and she ends up straining and has a bit a blood at the end of her poo. Both Kittens were wormed last week with Advocate.

Been looking at Applaws Kitten or James Wellbeloved Kitten, would really like to get something that I can from the stores rather than online because I am not always in to receive deliveries.

Many thanks

Jo

Re: Advice on Best Dried Food

I'm not sure how it works with dry but with wet you don't need to feed kitten food. What wet were you feeding?

I think the recommended better dry foods are Orijen and Applaws. Sure someone else will be along soon who knows for sure though.

Your kittens are gorgeous

Re: Advice on Best Dried Food

Breeder had them on Felix Chicken pouches + Babycat 34, then I gradually put them on RC Kitten Instinctive, after which made matters worse ended up on Pro kolin for a fortnight cut out wet food and has been ok ever since.

Have you thought about trying them on a more high quality wet food? My 2 didn't have particularly nice poos when I first got them and they were on Felix, changed over to high quality stuff and they're fine now.

Re: Advice on Best Dried Food

My two are currently on Smilla, Bozita and Animonda Carny from Zooplus. I use the tetrapacks and tinned pate with Bozita though, not the jelly ones. It may look more expensive but they eat less as it isn't full of fillers etc - same with the good quality dry. Although you are supposed to free feed kittens so my two have cost me a fortune the past couple of months.

I think these are the most popular ones used, others also give Grau too but I haven't tried it. It may be worth getting a few tins of one brand and trying them on it, but introduce it really slowly to try and prevent runny bums. With my 2 I mixed a tiny bit in with their felix, upping the amount of new and downing the felix by tiny amounts over a few weeks.

Re: Advice on Best Dried Food

Doesn't feeding 3 different foods at 1 time upset their stomachs everytime you change them do you have to gradually mix in the different foods?

Re: Advice on Best Dried Food

I have similar issues with my boys and supermarket brands made them sick a lot of the time. Now I feed Bloo three types of wet: Bozita, Grau and Smilla. Freckle gets Animonda, Grau and Smilla. If Bloo eats Animonda (especially Turkey and Shrimp) he gets sick and Freckle can be sick with some types of Bozita.
Both love Natural Instinct raw and they seem fine on that too.

They both still have a bit of dry (Applaws and Orijin) as I stocked up before I discovered Animonda, Grau and Smilla. I'm planning to introduce some of the German brands (Macs, Granatapet and others) in the future as they get bored very quickly and I need to rotate through as much as possible...
