Synulox drops

I have a litter of kittens who are just over 6 weeks old. one of the little boys has a urinary infection, he has had a bit of green discharge coming from his boy bits and has had trouble weeing.

I was just wondering how serious this could be? He's been put on synulox drops and has had 3 doses so far and there hasnt been much improvement. Hes otherwise well with a good appetite and full of beans.

I also forgot to put them in the fridge this morning , will they still be ok, i rang the vet and they said they should be ok, iam just worried with him being so young.

thanks in advance jen x

Re: Synulox drops

Hiya Jen, I've kept Synulox drops for a week before stopping using them, not kept them in the fridge either. Just give them a good shake before you give them. Hope they kick in and fight the infection eventually

squashynose is on a distinguished road
Re: Synulox drops

They can take some time to take effect, just keep going with them. If you see no improvement after a week I'd call the Vet.

Poor boy. I haven't heard of a urinary infection in a young kitten. From what I have read antiBs take a day or so to kick in and have an affect. Did the vet say anything about what to feed him as well. I would check with them, but maybe adding fluid to his food will help flush it out, and I would avoid dry food until he is clear.

No he didnt mention any thing about diet. Ive never had any cat with a urinary infection at all before. The only thing i can think of is that mom might have licked him and given him the infection, is that likely?

I hope he will be ok, hes such a sweetie

I wouldn't have thought so, otherwise the incidence would be higher surely as all Mums wash their babies bums. Its a mystery. Did the vet test his wee to see what kind of bacteria it contained, that could be a clue. Its probably just one of those freak things that happen from time to time.

How is he today, any better? I hope the antibs start kicking in soon and he is on his way to a full recovery.

Re: Synulox drops

I've never heard of this in such a young kitten either, but I do agree about the food - keep him on wet food and add extra water, the extra fluid shoudl help with clearing the infection.
