HELP! my five month old kitten has diarrhea!

I am really unnerved atm, my poor puss Rocky has had a bit of an upset stomach for around 5 days, hes been having real soft poo's at first so i was not too alarmed because my older cat used to go through phases of having soft poos every so often..
His mood and temperament has been fine, hes still eating and still drinking no problems, then thursday he had runny poo, so i bought from pets at home johnsons tablets for diarrhea for cats and dogs, which required me to give him one tablet over three days and i was advised to feed him small amounts of chicken and rice, however it is now the third day and his diarrhea is getting worse, hes had five episodes today and i had to wash his paws because hed gotten them mucky! Again he still has a good apetite is drinking and he doesnt look "ill". ive now taken away all his food accept for his water.
I tried ringing my vets 3 times today and no answer, and they are shut tomorrow! if anyone can help me or give me some advise id very much appreciate it!

Could be worms, but I would try another vet's number as most areas should have an out-of-hours vet. That much diarrhoea could be dehydrating him

Does you vet practice not have an emergency line in place you can contact? Personally I wouldn't have brought over the counter medication to treat the condition as they could make it worse, also PAH staff are not 'trained' to offer advice in a way where perhaps veterinary help is needed.

I would suggest the kitten needs some URGENT attention especially if he is having constant diarrhoea and in light it is worsening, even if for a diagnosis, at least whatever can be nipped in the bud promptly. I imagine this feels distressing for you what is happening to kitten right now and know doubt, you're wanting to take care of him, however not sure if treating him at home is benefiting him right now. Also doesn't seem the best idea to starve him as kittens do need to eat at least something.

Re: HELP! my five month old kitten has diarrhea!

As above ^^ your kitten needs to be seen by a vet today ,if this has been going on for 5 days and getting worse there is every chance that your kitten could dehydrate. All vets must provide Out of Hours cover, whether they do it themselves or hand it over to an emergency service. If,in the unlikely event that you cant get a response from your own vet,who should at least be able to give you an OOH number to call, then you need to phone round the vets in your area until you get one to listen to you.It is never advisable to use over the counter treatments especially when you dont know what is causing the problem. Please keep us updated and I hope your kitten is okay.

Re: HELP! my five month old kitten has diarrhea!

hes been wormed, with a worming tablet from the vets so it cant be worms, hes still drinking plenty of water im filling up his dish up to twice a day, hes had a small plate of chicken this morning and a few biscuits this afternoon, but ive taken the rest away, hes still his cheeky self trying to pinch whatever im eating, and is still pottering round the house as normal, ive tried pinching his skin to see how quickly it returns to normal bcuz slow return usually means dehydration but hes long haired so it is difficult to tell! I am worried about him and my house atm is continuously smelling of really strong offensive cat poo, which obviously he cant help poor mite! I just wish i knew wots causing it because hes not allowed out yet still too ickle!

The only one who can tell you what is wrong is a vet,we can only advise what we would do.I would not be happy leaving this until Monday.

Could be a different type of worms, some wormers only do certain types!! Was it Drontal? And when was he wormed? Treacle's just been wormed again for his 2nd round of Tapeworm, although he wasn;t due for another 2 months...

Exactly. It could be any one of many things, that is why I'm suggesting a vet is the only one who can tell. After 5 days, and getting worse,I dont think guessing is the right course of action.
