Re: Kitten lower lip looks wierd
I've never heard of Betamethasone Valerate Ointment, but if its stuff meant for humans I definitely wouldn't use it on a cat, especially around her mouth.
Taking her to the vet is the right thing to do, it could be a rodent ulcer they can appear on the lips or feet when their immune system is compromised for some reason, so it may be an outward symptom of some virus she has picked up.

I just was searching around on google and I found a few different medications for pets that have Betamethasone Valerate as an active ingrediant. Also Betamethasone Valerate is simply an anti flammatory cream. I'll bring the cream to the vet with me and ask him if that was alright for me to use. I won't use it again unless he tells me otherwise. ![]() (It hasn't seemed to help much anyway.. But that may be because she wipes it off immidiately) Also I googled "Rodent ulcer cat pictures" and none of the pictures look like hers. hers really looks more like a blister and it's right smack in the middle of her bottum lip.. also it's on the outside. My poor baby, I'm worried for her. :/ |

Re: Kitten lower lip looks wierd
the cat may have gingavitis - my cat developed an odd looking lower lip. When I took her to the vet this is what he diagnosed.
I now feed raw chicken wings/drumsticks/thighs and mouse size lumps of muscle meat as well as her normal diet of bozita to get her to chew to naturally clean her teeth. there are threads on here about this problem - worth a search However would book a vet visit just to be sure. |

Re: Kitten lower lip looks wierd
So it turns out she had an allergic reaction.. The vet said it was most likely to the plastic in her food bowl. We bought her glass food bowls now so hopefully we won't have this problem again.
He gave her a shot of cortisone (which is a steroid that is a powerful anti-inflammatory).. He also prescribed Clavamox drops.. That I have to give her twice a day for ten days.. I have to give her 1ml.. the poor girl has to drink it.. He said her boo-boo should clear up in 72 hours. I hope she's not hurting ![]() |

Re: Kitten lower lip looks wierd
My cat had a similar thing you described. My vet said to give her a steriod injection but because she was kittening, should wait. I took her to see another vet and he said she was over grooming, and a few days later it disappeared. Hope yours clears up soon.
