Is it safe to feed kittens raw meat without freezing it?

Hi
My kittens used to eat raw mince beef at the breeder's house, so we tried to feed them the same, but we did freeze mince meat for a couple of days. The trouble was, only one of the kittens liked that raw meat, the other one didn't want to eat it, so my partner bought today mince beef and without freezing gave it to our kittens and they both liked it. Is it safe to feed raw meat without freezing it?

I'd say yes. Mice don't come freeze packaged in the wild. I feed the cat bits off the meat as I cut it up as well as the prefrozen NI mince I buy.

I hope so, I don't want my little girls to have some nasty parasites ...

It depends. Generally speaking, anything that is gamey (venison, rabbit etc) should be frozen first to kill off any potential parasites. The same is also said to be true for beef by some people.

Is this just "meat" you are feeding? Are they also getting something else? Because as you probably know, just meat isn't enough for them.

Oh no, it's not only mince beef, I feed them mostly wet complete food; grau, bozita, smila, porta holistic, animonda, also cooked chicken and a little dry kibbles. And they eat everything what I give them, which make me very happy The only trouble is one of the kittens doesn't like frozen mince beef, she likes it without being frozen.

Excellent - lucky you to have such cats! I am sure there are plenty on here who envy you such unfussy eaters.

As an aside, do you think the breeder used to feed them "fresh" beef mince and that is why one of them only likes it that way?

I know I'm lucky, I hope they won't change, they are only 4 months old and they just want eat all the time. I think the breeder used to feed them not frozen before beef mince, I will ask her about it. I would like to feed them more raw meat, I'm not sure what else to try with the kittens

I would try them on everything. It is game season now, so the raw feeding world is very much your oyster at the moment. Doesn't need to be minced either. You could try to cut up the meat in thin long strips instead of cubes - often kittens take to these fettucini better than to cubes.

The bones on quail and woodpigeon are a good size for them to have a go... Rabbit ribs are also fairly easy for young ones.

Don't forget though - only up to 20% of their weekly meals can be unbalanced food (raw or cooked). You could always explore the company offerings that make "complete" cat minces, such as Darlings and Natural Instinct.

thanks for advice. I will try to change their diet more while they are still babies, very hungry babies. I hope they will like more raw meat.
