foooooood grrrrr

im back to square one with food choices again!!!!

in the pet shop today, the manager (whos done nutrition courses) said cats only need to be feed on a dry diet only, wet food is not nessecary. (as i was going to buy natures menu also) and i explained i wanted a few different foods to feed to change each day and different flavours, she explained this was not nessecary either and i would create fussy cats. helllppppp, ive read all the cat food info and researched m0ost of the foods available and im back at square one.

also im wondering the feeding guidelines on orijen kitten, dontseem like enough food??

Re: foooooood grrrrr

Ignore the shop manager - If you read the book recommended here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Your-Cat-Rev...1475856&sr=8-1
- you will find it's written by a vet who initially worked in the pet food industry and is a trained nutritionist and runs her own veterinary business and basically has done years and years of more training that the pet shop man - whose course was probably sponsored by a dry food manufacturer. The vet lady recommends a full wet diet or preferably raw - the book has loads of case studies. Ignore the man and go with your brain. Buy wet and ignore him.

Our kitten is fed on Ziwi Peak which is a high quality protein wet food, is not specific for kittens and he is thriving on it

Yes, that one first over all the others because it is the best and I have it so know exactly what it says - can't vouch for the others- and no, don't bother with kitten food. Don't see mice in the wild coming in kitten, adult and senior flavour!!!

Re: foooooood grrrrr

I was once told by a vet (I no longer use) never to feed my old cat wet food as it will rot his teeth I always fed him wet and he had lovely teeth

Re: foooooood grrrrr

With my old cats we were told to always use dry food as its better for the uniary tract and Buster had terrible gingivitis and was told really sternly by the vet that the wet food caused it. My OH and I felt awful like we'd been told off by the dentist for giving too many sweets to the kids So for the next 15 years or so it was dry after all you trust their advice and knowledge and there didn't seem to be anywhere or anyone else to ask.

It is not necessary for us to eat fillet steak or Sunday roast. We could possibly live quite happily on Weetabix without the milk and sugar, but we would not enjoy that, neither would your cat.

I think cats and dogs need meat or fish. My old cat would only eat Hi Life ocean, she wouldn't touch anything else. She also liked to nibble on Iams during the day. Yes she was fussy, all my cats have been fussy, but so what?

I bought this book after it was recommended by Chewie a member on the forum and I have to say it is the best book I have in my "not too small" collection.
