Hairloss?

I've noticed that Bob has thinning hair on his tummy....

You can't usually notice it, except when he lays down on his side or back, and its certainly not completely bald - just thinning. Its always been a bit thin but now I'm starting to think its spreading. The rest of his coat is lovely and thick and glossy as it should be.

Any ideas? I'm thinking possibly overgrooming?

Aside from that he is eating absolutely fine (grain free, high meat, mostly wet), drinking normally, acting normally, no signs of pain or itching, no fleas or ringworm or anything......
And Jones is completely normal - full covering of hair all over.

I'm loathe to take him to the vet for this because there appears to be absolutely nothing wrong; I don't want to put him through all that stress over something as simple as a receeding hairline but I am curious.

Do cats get alopaecia?

Re: Hairloss?

Yes they do but it is often brought on by periods of prolonged stress. A possibility?

Silly question but could you just be noticing it more without his baldness actually having gotten worse?

Re: Hairloss?

It could well be that I'm noticing it more - he's always been thin underneath, I certainly don't remember it starting.... could well be I've just seen him on his back more recently!

Not sure about the stress. The only real changes lately have been the arrival of the hamster and the fishtank, although the hamster is always in another room. Everything else has remained pretty constant. Will have a think though...

Re: Hairloss?

Aww bless, having more tummy rubs?

Reason I am asking as sometimes I get "hung" up about hobbs' area above his eyebrows that under a certain light or perspective looks bald(er). Other times it looks perfectly normal.

When I was a cat show a while ago I made a point of looking at other black cats to check what they were like and they all seemed to have a slightly more baldy look over the eyebrows than other coloured cats so I just stopped stressing about it.

Re: Hairloss?

Might try to get some photos later, see what you think... it really doesn't seem like a big deal but I'm a worrier.
