Issues with Luna's stitches

Hi all,

I had Luna neutered yesterday and I asked for one of those special collars so that she couldn't get at the op site. That's all well and good but unfortunately, no matter how hard I've tried, I can't seem to stop her jumping up on furniture, my lap, the windowsill etc. I'm having to take her to the vet again tomorrow as the wound has opened up a little. I've had to shut her out in the hallway with her bed, food and drink, her litterbox and her favourite toy mouse as it's the only area of my flat that has nothing for her to jump on. Even if I'm here to supervise her, she'll be jumping up on stuff as soon as my back's turned. I hate shutting her out as we're very attached to each other but obviously I need to eat, sleep and go out to work and for shopping without being terrified that she'll do some damage while I'm out. I don't think it would be practical to shut her in her pet carrier as she might need the loo and also, after this op, she now associates it with bad things. I was wondering if there is any other solution than just keeping in a place with nothing to jump up on?

Thanks in advance (and sorry for the novel but I'm really worried),

Lou

Re: Issues with Luna's stitches

The only other solution would be a cage, ideally a fairly big one - your vet might be able to lend you one? When Triftji tore a ligament in one of his knees a few years ago, my vet lent me one that was big enough for a litter tray and feeding bowls - might be a better option than cooping her up in her catbox?

Re: Issues with Luna's stitches

Thanks for the reply. Fortunately, the vet said she had just stretched the skin a bit but gave her an antibiotic injection. The vet also said that it was actually a very good idea to keep Luna in the hallway so that she can't jump up at things. The wound looks better already. I still bring Luna into other rooms to feed her and to give her cuddles. Her final check is next Wednesday so hopefully then she'll get the all clear and the 'cone of shame' can come off.

Re: Issues with Luna's stitches

A bit of movement is not so bad once the initial healing starts, it stops the scar being tight, my girls were all very adept with the cone on and jumping up and down all over the place. Don't be tempted to take the cone off too soon, if she is a licker she might still pull the stitches out, although depends on the type of stitches as well.
