Ty is in hospital tonight!

Hi everyone,

I don't know if anyone remembers but Tyler has had bad gums for a long time. He has gingivitus and back in sept he went under anaesthetic. They took one tooth out and gave the rest of them a clean and polish.

He was fine for a good few weeks but then his gums flared up again and he had a couple of injections that didn't last long.

Recently though he's stopped eating and he has been litterally screaming. I took him to the vets today and the vet was shocked when he opened Tyler's mouth and he screamed. The vet said that he's been a vet for 20+ years and he's never heard a cat make that noise before. He was very shaken up at the noise. Tyler started growling so we put him back in his box and he called in another vet as he was going to have to go under anaesthetic. So we discussed my options but I'd gone there with the intention of just getting all his teeth taken out. There were other things they could have tried but I just wanted them out so that he'd never have to go through this pain again. Honestly the screaming is blood curdling and I never ever want him to feel that bad again. As far as I'm concerned he doesn't need his teeth if they're causing him to feel this pain. Especially as he has a mummy and daddy that will do whatever we need to make sure he is able to eat his food. Bonnie only had three teeth for years and was totally fine with eating even kibble!

They don't even know how they;re gonna put him under cos they cant get near him. They are thinking they'll just put a pipe into his cat box and filter gas in to sedate him.

I asked them to take him in for the night because I am really worried about the fact he hasnt eaten for a good few days and I know they could put him on a drip to rehydrate him and give him painkillers to help the pain. He's having half his teeth out tomorrow and the other half out next week.

Please think of him tomorrow. It's going to be traumatic for him but if he doesn't have this done he is litterarlly going to starve to death!!

Oh poor boy everything crossed here for a much happier Tyler later tomorrow.

They do manage very well without teeth or hardly any, we have two gummies who only have 4 teeth between them the only thing is to mash up food for him or it may well arrive back immeidiately but other than that he should be fine x

Yeah thats what I asked but they said the length of the anaesthetic to take a whole mouth minus one of teeth out would take around 3 hours and they did do that once and the cat died the next day. So it's best in the long run to do it in two sessions.

Thanks both, I was expecting someone to say something like "omg you've insisted on having all his teeth taken out when they said there were other options!? how can you be so cruel!?". Because I'm the first to admit I'm neurotic when it comes to my babies. But if you could hear the noise he makes you'd probably pulled them out already by your bare hands!!!

Hopefully they will find the main cause, he may only need the back ones out, he has all my sympathy Ive just got rid of an adcess & the dam back tooth causeing all the problems but originally the dentist thought it was a different tooth
