Exclamation Fur balls... Help!

Hi everyone,

I'm worried about my 6 month old male kitten who I think is suffering from a fur ball. He went off his food yesterday and today he started gagging and coughing up saliva which is what made me think it's a fur ball. I've tried giving him some fur ball paste today but he wouldn't take it so I managed to smear a small amount in his mouth before he freaked out and started gagging again. He's not himself at the moment and is very quiet and sleepy. Is there anything else I can do for him? And could it get serious? This is my first time having cats so it's all very new to me!

Thanks! Charlotte

Hi is your kitten still off his food and is he still drinking.Has he actually been sick. What makes you think it may be a fur ball, has he had them in the past.If he hasnt eaten since yesterday I would get him seen by your vet as soon as you can.It may even be worth phoning for advice tonight if he is still lethargic and off his food.It may be a furball or it may be a hundred and one different things, best to let the vet decide if he is still not himself.Hope he is soon back to being his normal happy self,Please keep us updated.

Hi Buffie thanks for your reply I ended up taking him into the vet earlier to be on the safe side. They couldn't find anything majorly wrong except a slight temperature so they gave him antibiotics just in case he'd scratched his throat and picked up an infection or something. He already seems to have picked up and has even had a tiny bit of food, so fingers crossed he's on the mend! Charlotte
