Persian kitten .Can I overfeed

I have a 6mth old persian kitten weighing 9 lbs.Is it possible that she is overweight. She was always a large kitten being the heaviest in the litter.
I do not leave food permanently down but give her 3 meals a day on a mixture of dry biscuits and wet food of cooked meat or fish .She is quite fit and agile but should I now start to cut her food down to two meals a day to just maintain this weight. Advice from breeders would be good especially persian breeders.

Re: Persian kitten .Can I overfeed

You can overfeed and a cat can be overweight.

However, find out what is a 'normal' weight for your particular breed (depending on size of cat because there will always be a range). Vets don't always know about different weights for breeds and may say your cat is overweight because it would be for a moggie.

So you are right to ask Persian breeders what they think the weight range is.

Hi, well looking at the photo she doesnt really look overweight to me. Mine have two meals a day one at morning and one in the evening and biscuits left down inbetween. I would cut her down to that, I dont think any cat needs three meals a day and also has she been wormed lately? Other than that, I think you have a good healthy stropping kitten there.

Re: Persian kitten .Can I overfeed

I don't think it is possible to over feed a kitten at all. They are growing so fast they need all the calories they can get. They can sometimes look a little porky as they build up for a growth spurt, then once they have gone through that they start to look lean again.

I was looking at a veterinary site concerning weight and it is normal for male cats to be heavier than females so your kittens 12 lb weight at the moment appears to be fine. The article was lited in The cat care centre site in an article 'That fat cat'

Smile Re: Persian kitten .Can I overfeed

I'm glad you asked this because I've been wondering myself.

I feed Mikah once a day (in the morning) and she'll eat it throughout the day.. Usaully when I go to bed there's still some in the bowl.. But when I wake up it's empty. :P

I weighed her last night and she's 8 pounds.
