Re: ooo, take a look at this

OMG---I love her! I just bought her cookbook, and was touting it on here a while back, I think to Kaz. Our kitchen isn't big enough to go the full monty on having the grinder and preparing raw, although we have a giant freezer , so I've been using it as a guideline to cook for them a little and get a plan together for when we've moved yet again and have more kitchen space. Meanwhile, I think I've just found a local maker of complete raw diets from local, organic meat

You don't need the grinder. For Misi, I have to chop her chucks of meat up quite small and crush the bone (meat cleaver job) because she has mouth problems, but Simba gets his in chunks, like a chicken drumstick, or rabbit leg and he deals with the rest. That's why they have teeth. I prepare everything on the kitchen table in a normal amount of space. I used to (when Misi was eating raw exclusively) prepare a month's worth of food for both cats. I freeze it in plastic boxes (cheapo, Ikea) and each box holds 2 day's worth of food. Or you could freeze it in bags, saving loads of space! If you already have the freezer space, you're halfway there

Re: ooo, take a look at this

Dr. Becker's Real Food for Healthy Dogs and Cats.

Apparently it's outrageously expensive on amazon.co.uk, but it's only about $17 on amazon.com. I don't know what international shipping charges are from them, but I'd be happy to do some sort of paypal arrangement with anyone who would need me to order it and have it shipped to them from here--like if it's cheaper for someone in the US to ship to the UK rather than paying amazon. You know how crazy these shipping things can be.

Good to know---the other problem I should have mentioned is the layout of the house and making sure the dogs don't steal everything from them. That's kind of why I'm leaning toward minces at the moment until we move again this summer. There's no place to block the cats in as I know they'll want to run about with chicken wings. But this is all most exciting for later

Ha ha, see your problema!! Simba sometimes sits on my shoulder while I'm preparing their grub, and little by little inches his way down my arm towards the food. Misi sometimes sits at my feet. Can't imagine doggies being quite so restrained though!

Oh lordie, the pups steal absolutely everything from the cats. The kittens can't really have toys any more, as the boys steal mice, balls, you name it and shred them. They eat the catnip . And, best yet, Ragnar likes to play with the Catit track! . They do think they're cats trapped in dog bodies! And while they will let any cat eat out of their dinner dishes with no complaint, they will equally happily steal food.

It was okay when the kittens were tiny and were quarantined in their room. THey even had this really awesome mouse that squeaked when batted, and it had a lovely soft cover on it. As soon as the quarantine was lifted, there was a corgi search and destroy mission and the squeaky mouse is now a pelt! Eventually I guess we'll do baby gates or something to keep the boys out. But we have really wide openings in the downstairs, so we'd end up buying super gates we probably would have no use for elsewhere. So, I put cat wet food on our dining room table, and I put out mice while the dogs are outside, and since we know we'll have to move anyway, at least it gives me something positive to look forward to
