Confused about cat food

Hi,

I feed a family of 5 stray/feral cats and have always given them Felix jelly tins (though they much prefer the 'as good as it looks' jelly pouches).

I've been experimenting a bit and they don't like cat food in gravy, and they don't like "pate" type cat food - assuming this is meat/mush type food without any jelly/gravy?

I'm looking to feed them something with better meat content (on a budget ofc!) - but still want the 'chunks in jelly' caus I know they'll prefer that.

But am confused as zooplus doesn't seem to always make descriptions clear whether cat food is pate or chunks.

I almost placed an order for Smilla cat food, but reading forums it appears to be pate? I don't want to try Bozita and Porta 21 is a bit on the expensive side.

Are the Animonda Carny 'chunks in jelly' ?

Thanks for reading...

Shams

Yes, Smilla is pate.

Animonda Carny is a very flaky food, I wouldn't say it is pate but it's not really jelly either - quite hard to explain. It's the one my 2 prefer out of them all though.

Why don't you want to try Bozita? They do chunks in jelly?

Re: Confused about cat food

If it has to be chunks in Jelly then there isn't much choice really, Bozita and Toplife (available from Asda) are about the only ones I can think of.

Animonda Carny is a pate as are almost all the higher meat content foods (reason being that the jelly makes up a good percentage of the overall food in the chunks variaties). Are you mushing the pate up with a fork? I'm suprisd being feral/strays they are that picky but I suppose that's cats for you

Yes they are fussy bunch I'll put out 8 bowls in the garden (mix of wet and dry) for the 5 of them (including the 6th visitor that has figured out what feeding time is, but who I don't shoo away as I'm unsure if he's stray or not), and a couple of them have a sniff and have the cheek to sulk back up to the kitchen lol

Hmm I'd rather not handle Bozita because of the pork content, though I'm sure other brands may or may not have pork content - but Bozita declare it in the ingredients.

Ah it makes sense for most of these premium brands to be pate, penny has dropped.

When I tried pate in the past, I kind of mushed it up a little when I emptied it from the tin, I think I need to give it another try, and will give Animonda Carny a trial too.

Re: Confused about cat food

If they will eat pate foods then this will increase your choices massively. Some people find adding a bit of warm water to the pate's and mashing them up makes them more attractive to their cats. I would start by mixing a small amount in with their normal food and slowly increasing the ratio to get them used to eating it.

I think Toplife contains pork too unfortunately.

Forgot to say, add warm water to the pate - makes it more sloppy and a bit gravy like, they might eat it then
