poo and pee frequency in raw feeding

Hi all!

I have this dilemma for about 2 months, since I totally stopped feeding my two cats with dry food and passed to raw exclusively.

They both poo every 2 days, while it was once per day when they were on raw + other wet (canned) natural food + Applaws dry . I don't know if this is related to the dry food or the wet canned food (I ceased them at the same time).

The poo consistency looks ok, I think, it is dark in colour, well formed, less stinky, and a litlle smaller in size. No constipation and no diarrhoea, thank God.

They seem to pee twice a day, almost as often as before, although I have noticed they rarely drink water (I change their water 3 times per day, this habit has never changed since I have them, also I haven't changed the type of water). However, the amount of pee is a little inferior to what it was before raw feeding.

1. Is this frequency normal regarding the poo?

2. The liquid taken from the raw food is enough not to be thirsty any more? No sign of dehydration, they eat normally (the unfrequent fuss included in their menu , because they are still trying to make me return to the dry and canned food).

Yep sounds normal for raw feeders If you're worried about them not getting enough water have you thought about trying a water fountain?

Alternatively, you could add a little water to their meals if you are worried.

Wow, thank you, I've just checked to see if these are available here, and I have good news for my darlings I also like that the device recirculates and purifies the water.

Hobbs, thanks, yep, I already do this, but they don't lick the liquid left on the bottom of the plate, they only diligently spread it all around on the floor, you might say a murder takes place in my kitchen every 6 hours

Thank you all for the fast answers and for assuring me everything is fine.

Anca, I cannot remember. When you make your own food, do you mince it? Do you add water then?

Re: poo and pee frequency in raw feeding

As a PS., I was especially concerned about the poo thing, as it made me think maybe they don't eat enough (I still throw away some insignificant quantities of food they leave), although the amounts of meat mixtures are according to my recent readings in the sticky threads here related to cat nutrition.

As for the water, I was a little concerned because when they were also on dry and canned wet meals, they used to drink a lot. Now it's a very evident absence at the water bowl. It's surprising they pee almost as before, without touching the water actually.

Thank you again for all recommendations.

Haha, well, this is a really difficult question, because I have rotated and made all sorts of changes, that I myself feel dizzy. I mainly give them the meat cut into larger pieces, so that they can chew it and clean their teeth. I only mince a small part, to be able to mix the supplements together and to stick them to the larger pieces of meat. If it is entirely minced, they don't eat it all. Yes, I add some water or some meat soup, but not so much. I don't have any recipe now to give you an exact overview, I make the food consistency based on their acceptance degree.

Other explanations. They had raw before, so it was not something new to them when I took the abrupt decision of exclusive raw. But the diversity and differences of opinions and information that I found in this forum (very convincing information) made me try diverse approaches, but always taking care of what and how they like to eat. I have 6 types of different meat mixtures in the freezer, that I alternate to prevent them from getting bored. These will be enough for 2 - 3 more weeks, then I'll probably "invent" or try to make improvements and I'll have another types of recipes for the following month, and so on. Uh, it's hard, it's not funny, but that's it, I know it's better for them.
