Beaphar flea spray overdose. Urgent

Right.. To cut a long story short our cats have had a bout of fleas and my mother, not reading the instructions on the spray has decided to not spray it onto one of our cats but rub it on in large doses. The cat is now frothing at the mouth and dribbling excessively. Is this a serious reaction or will it die down by itself?

Re: Beaphar flea spray overdose. Urgent

totally agree. cats have died because of bad reactions to normal doses of flea repellants. So potentially very serious.

Re: Beaphar flea spray overdose. Urgent

Why come on here and ask surely surely?? your first reaction when seeing that in your pet would be to get straight on the phone to the vet/or take it to emergency vet right away!?!?

Im sorry if this seems harsh but your cat could be dying and you have come on a forum?!?!

Re: Beaphar flea spray overdose. Urgent

Because panicking without cause won't help anything. I'd rather have checked first and coming from past experiences i think panicking would only stress him out further. I'd rather not be criticized for asking for help even if i have done the wrong thing. I was merely looking for someone that might've had something like this happen before and could give me a point in the right direction. Some emergency vets are quite hard to get hold of here and If i could do something to help him first I would.

Re: Beaphar flea spray overdose. Urgent

i agree id get to the vets asap i think they warn about reactions on the contra bit but a vet should be able to take the best course of action some of the shop brought stuff has caused some nasty reactions for some cats hope for a speedy recovery for your little one good luck xx

Re: Beaphar flea spray overdose. Urgent

Just called the vet, been told to have him drink plenty of water and keep an eye on him. Was told not to take him down the surgery tonight as it might stress him out more if we're lugging him about. He seems to be a little better now hes stopped frothing, had something to eat and hes now asleep with my dad. Thanks for any replies.
