cat acting strange after straying from home

Can anyone help? Our cat who is two years old didn't come home for a couple of days, I found her last night stuck in a basement of a building a few streets away from us (we are in central London). A miracle that I found her! Since returning home, she has been acting strange and unwilling to interact with us properly. i know she's probably been through some trauma but she seems desperate to leave again. She is neutered.

On the advice of our vet I am keeping her indoors for a few days to get her used to things again, as I let her outside for a few minutes this morning and she made a beeline for the busy road. She is unhappy being indoors all the time, but I don't know what else to do to keep her safe for the time being. I've bought a Feliway diffuser to see if that works...

Re: cat acting strange after straying from home

Great that you found her

I'd suggerst a few weeks *house arrest* rather than a few days, at least 2 weeks anyway, tho' I appreciate that's easier said than done, especially if the cat is used to being outside and obviously unhappy at being kept in.

If she's not chipped then this should be your next move, also a collar with ID is a good idea as identifying her/you would be pretty much immediate should she disappear again and be found wandering.

Hopefully others will be along shortly with more concrete/helpful ideas.

Ian

What a relief you found her. I presume you and/or the vet have checked her over very carefully in case of any injuries or illnesses? Other than that I'd agree with Ian B - she needs to stay in for some time until she settles (although I accept that might be hard to judge if she's desperate to get out!).
