I have recently got my first kitten, she is now 11 weeks old and i have read i should start brushing her teeth soon to get her used to it.

I have seen cat toothbrushes and also finger brushes. Does anyone have an opinion on which is better. I thought about trying the finger brush as it seems like it would be easier? but they are made of rubber not normal bristles, does this make a difference.

I have also read somewhere that as she is only young i should brush without the toothpaste but i have seen toothpaste for kittens so is it ok to use this?

If anyone has any advise at all that would be great. Thanks.

Hi, great to hear you'll starting early with tooth brushing. Personally I don't think much of the finger brushes. We have a new kitten at 14 weeks and we have been getting him used to his mouth being touched by massaging the outside along the gum line with our finger.

Maybe start of with finger brush although you can get a mini toothbrush better than the dual which seem to be intrusive, CET VIRBEC, have included a link to give you an idea, shop around and or ask your vet if they can get just the toothbrush for you, else VIRBEC is good to use however not sure if okay for kittens.

Thanks for the link, thats been quite helpful with advice on building up to brushing. I think i will give the finger brush a try and see how i get on with it. It seems very strange to me brushing a cats teeth and was not something i had even considered doing but now i can see how important it is, i just hope she likes the taste of the toothpaste and lets me do it lol.
