Scabs on kittens' heads

I have a litter of six 7-week-old egyptian maus and they all of them have a cluster of scabs on the top/back of their heads. These scabs are in a very specific area, not down the neck or on the ears and I've felt each of them over for scabs elsewhere but there are none. It started as a week or so ago with a couple of little pinprick scabs you could just feel, and I assumed they'd just boshed each other on the heads with claws playing. But there's lots now, on all the kittens not just one or two. Most just have a little scab or two, but the two that got it first are quite bad, with redness visible if you part the fur and one larger scab poking through the fur.

None of them are itching and their ears are clean and free from mites. They're bright-eyed and energetic. Neither of the adult cats have anything. I've got a vet appointment booked tomorrow but I wondered if anyone had come across anything similar.

Thanks for any help/advice.

Not anything I've come across but I hope they are okay and it's not anything serious

Re: Scabs on kittens' heads

It reminds me of three quite different things but it doesn't actually match any of them. Sorry!

Re: Scabs on kittens' heads

If it is scabies, they would need to have been in contact with scabies mites through bedding or physical contact. Besides, scabies is itchy.

Have they started eating solid food just before they developed these scabs? It might be a food allergy....
Or else they might have a flea allergy.

But you would still expect them to be itchy, though...

Re: Scabs on kittens' heads

You sure it's not where mum has been picking them up ... or trying to? Now they are heavier she might have to grab a bit harder to try to move them about. Though, I'm not sure she would even try to pick them up at that age?

Rilly never once tried to pick the girls up so I don't know if this is what it is, just a guess.

Hope it went well at the vets xx
