furballs

hey guys it been a while since i have been on here just popped in to get a bit of advice.

dillon has always suffered a bit with furballs not very often but when he does he coughs a bit then swallows it again and everything is fine, but the past week he has been coughing loads but never actually brings anything up. i think he is giving himself a sore throat and it cant be very nice for him.

we have not got the cash to go to the vets till next week has anybody got any suggestions that could help him in any way? my mum said something about marmite but she couldnt remember what it was (typical for my mum). any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated i wish we could take him straight to the vets but there is no way we can

Re: furballs

not used it and read lots of different things even saw petroleum jelly suggested ,
my girl had a really bad problem just recently and it was the grass that worked, not special kitty grass just plain grass from the garden or anywhere nearby that is wildgrowing, not sprayed, grabbed it and offered it to her. Theres nothing more natural to get it out and she was probably at the point of impaction, couple of days and a good few doses, she brought a scary amount from both ends.

Re: furballs

Wish I had thought of it myself but it was the nice lady in the health food shop that suggested it and yep I too went 'doh'!

Hope it works!

The expensive laxative paste you buy from vets is just petroleum jelly flavoured with malt so this is not actually a silly idea at all!

Do keep an eye on him though....one of mine has always had hairball issues so when he started to cough more I presumed it was just that....it does seem now though that he may have a seasonal asthma which does need veterinary intervention.

i got the grass out the garden and put it down in the kitchen. the result was keshi playing with it dillon eating a lil bit then loosing interest then oakley eating loads making a weird meowing noise then run off too be sick. grrrr right result wrong kitty lol. i have to say tho since doing that dillon has not really been doing it as much i may get some malt paste as a treat as i looked on youtube n seen lots of kitties that seem to like it.

Re: furballs

Saw this the other day when looking for something else in my vet medic catalogue

Katalax, aids the elimination of hairballs £11.22 free postage
Laxapet 50g formulated for dogs and cats for hairball and general regular movements £8.81
Vet-Medic - the same medicines as your vet at consistently low prices.

Dont know if its any help.
