As for calicivirus - having had this more than once several years ago (including once AFTER vaccinations!) I wonder quite what the fuss is about to be honest, it was so very minor.
Are we to write off any kitten that has ever had any illness from being part of a breeding programme, including coronavirus which after all can mutate into FIP which really IS a problem? If we write off all such cats, aren't we going to end up with far worse problems caused by an ever decreasing gene pool? I would prefer to eliminate the things that really do matter, that cause death or major problems.

I do agree on that part, an ever decreasing gene pool would most definitely happen if from minor things we just didn't breed - that's why it's so much easier if you have all the facts around something x
it doesn't help that some breeders carry on breeding if they have something like a URI in house though as some do still sell kittens on active knowing they could send out a kitten and infect a breeders household x i think it is better to get cats through something like that or take measures to make sure kittens do not go out with it xx
however saying that, sometimes it can't be helped - like reactions to jabs etc xx
