Some help

Hi all!
We have a 7month old male cat called Soxs :-)

We just had our cat neutered today. We picked him up and as soon as we got him out the box we noticed a little red "thing" around the area. it was like a small peice of red string. The vets didnt seem to bothered when we told them, but tonight its getting longer. We stop him chewing/pulling it as much as we can buts now quite long. We think maybe it could be some sort of discharge?

He has been very playful since we got him home and seems fine, although he has just crashed out now in the bathroom sink ;-)

Im ready to take him to an emergency vets as everywhere is closed now but my other half says we should see how he is in the morning. Im worried that its part of his insides and by leaving it till the morning he could do some serious damage to himself.

Any advice / suggestions would be great!

Re: Some help

hey again.

quick update... got him to the vets this morning and they have told me its his wound. They said they have never seen something like this before in male cats and have put a collar on him and told us to keep it on for 4days.

To be honest, im sure they didnt secure the wound properly in the first place and left a bit hanging out, and ofcourse if someting is hanging the cats going to pull and tug on it.

I really hate seeing cats in these stupid collars!!!

It's the first time I hear of something like that, it's very intriguing and upsetting. Have they removed that "string"? I really wonder if the two "dear little things" have been completely removed, because it's not normal to have something hanging, it should be only haired skin left, and ... no collar necessary.

Re: Some help

The vet simply poked it back in, im not too happy with this vets now so i may change. Also im probably going to remove this stupid collar and if my cat does start to lick or bother the area i will have to put it back on

Edit: Just took the collar off and now the cat seems a lot happier and is eating and drinking. There was a little blood spot on the bed, but i heard that could happen after being neutered. Will just keep an eye on him for a few days.

Re: Some help

I'd be inclined to see another vet pretty sharp, is there is an evening surgery open tonight? does not sound right at all, hope the vet at least put on some clean gloves.

OMG! And I was thinking I am the one living in a dark space here and we must choose vets with attention, cause most of them are killers with reputation. Put it back? The string? But this may lead to infection, your cat spent at least half of day with it out of his body ... What kind of antibiotics has he received?

Re: Some help

Jesus OP, that sounds appalling. Hope your cat is OK after this treatment, and please get a new vet.

Re: Some help

OMG

I just don't see why any vet would do that

A new vet sounds like a priority!

Re: Some help

Hi again, our cat seems fine now. running around and playing, eating and drinking. We was given no antibiotics! We have changed Vets now. Again if i see any problems with him I will get him looked at, or do you think i should get him checked over just incase? I don't really wanna put the cat through anymore stress
