Best dry food? Orijen / Applaws?
I know, I know! Dry food sucks!
However there will be one set of monday-friday every three weeks where neither my partner nor myself will be at home during the times 9am-5pm.. I don't think our feline overlords would be impressed if they didn't get fed for a whole eight hours. I will need to leave them something to eat during the day (it will mostly be going in activity boards, treat-balls, one of those treat labyrinth things and generally hidden around the house). Any suggestions? I currently feed nature's menu & grau, chicken wings and some occasional nature's harvest fish pot (90% fish) or applaws ocean fish (75% meat, 1% rice, 24% broth) as treats. I know the Ph/Cal ratios and taurine are bad in those products but it's just once in a while ![]() I have heard Applaws, Orijen and Arcana are good dry foods. Which is best? Why? |

Re: Best dry food? Orijen / Applaws?
In my opinion, Orijen is the best dry food available to us due a number of factors.
All the brands you list are high meat content with Acana being 65% and the other 2 80%. Acana and Orijen are both manufactured by Champion Pet Foods with Orijen being their top end line (albeit when it gets to England the price difference isn't that much). As well as being a higher meat content they also include a higher number / quantity of botanical ingredients in Orijen if that's your thing . My cat would happily eat both types of Orijen but wouldn't touch any of the Acana.Applaws is a good quality dry food however the Ash content is very high which would put me off particularly if I had a male cat, personally I'm not convinced that the raw ingredients used are as good quality or as responsibly sourced as those in the other two either. However, it does seem to be well accepted and is probably the one my cat was most keen on. Another to consider is Taste of The Wild which unfortunately isn't as well declared as the others but appears to be a good quality grain free food and which most cats seem to particularly like. What Ali82 said. Mine have Orijen down at all time, but I think it's going a little stale. They love Applaws and I have bought more of that plus a selection of other 2kg bags from Zooplus to test (Natures Menu? etc.)
