Panacea is on a distinguished road
Help please regarding wet and raw food...

We feed our three cats Natural Instinct chicken and beef mince. They are a petite 16 month old Siamese female, a 5 month old muscly Oriental male who weighs similarly to the Siamese and his sister who is slighter. We feed them similar amounts twice per day. The Orientals have a chicken wing once per week but the Siamese turns her nose up and has tuna in springwater.

So my question is this - is this a complete diet? The kittens are growing and well and thriving but seem to need more food all the time. Since we've turned to raw they're like velociraptors!

Would we be better feeding them on a good wet food too?

Secondly, Natural Instinct can't deliver our next batch until Tuesday and we'll have run out in 2 days. If I want to order some good wet food (which they've never had before as they only had dry previously) now where should I buy from? Zooplus? And which should I get? Is there a safe bet with regards to wet food or should I order two in case they don't all like one...

Complicated this cat business.

Oh I'm in the UK by the way.

Thank you

Zooplus can take up to a week to deliver - so not an option - I'd pop to the supermarket and buy some meat to keep them going - it won't matter if it's not complete for just a few days.

I feed NI to my kitten solely and I believe it is complete.

NI is stated as complete, but I have heard concerns about the offal content and what s classed as offal vs muscle meat and meat etc.

However, the person who is much more knowledgeable than me and who had those concerns does not appear to be on the forum anymore.

I do know not many 'raw feeders' consider mince as 'proper' raw due to the mincing affect on the meat.

Re: Help please regarding wet and raw food...

Okay I did some serching and this is what I found about NI and completeness:

Quote:
Problem with NI is that it is currently only one flavour, so not ideal if you just want to feed raw.

They also don't use any other offal/organ apart from liver and their is some internal confusion as to how much bone they use.
Quote:
That is good news. However, they also only use 2% liver and no other offal/organ because according to them the food becomes to sloppy. So, they also haven't got the ratios cracked imo but perhaps their future food will be

Again, you are relying on their claims of "completeness" because the only analyses that they have done are rather meaningless macronutrient ones. Oh, yes, and that taurine one (levels are rather hard to believe but perhaps the 45% heart that they use explain that).

Re: Help please regarding wet and raw food...

Hi there, well done for feeding raw, it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I feed mostly raw and I also order grain-free tinned food from Zooplus. Smilla and Animonda Carny are favourites with my lot, and I've just ordered some Bozita.

I think it would be a good idea to vary the raw you are feeding anyway. Try them on some different meats and different textures. From the supermarket or butchers you could get some turkey leg meat, or pork, lamb hearts, or chunks of beef. Or try chopping up a small chicken for them. If they need persuading, put some tinned sardines in water on top. Hide a little bit of finely chopped chicken liver in it. Mix in a bit of raw egg. Just a few ideas here to tide you over.

Another online supplier is English Rabbit and Other Meats. They do wild and farmed minced rabbit, and other meats for pets, and their quality and service are great.
