Fleas

I'm getting a bit frustrated with what seems to be a flea problem in my home.

My cats are very outdoorsy, I only really see them if they are hungry. And they only tend to sleep in if the weather is bad. Fleas don't seem to bother them, although I could be wrong.

The fleas however I keep finding on myself, and its leaving me feeling a bit skanky. I can only imagine since the cats are never here the fleas from the carpet are attacking me instead, but I have to stop this. I'm finding them on me in work.

I want to try and be as eco friendly as possible. I hate the idea of using chemicals on my cats and in my home, especially since I hold some of my stock at home. I've put down diatomacias earth in my bedroom and hallway, still need to do the livingroom and Bathroom.

Has anyone had any luck with diatomacias earth or know of other eco friendly methods and practices I can put in place to help?

Re: Fleas

Fleas are a real pain, dangerous and seriously antisocial! Get the council round to spray the house but you need to treat the cats too! It cost me £100 but that was with a guaranteed result. You want to take them seriously, get them properly sorted out. As your cats you are legally responsible for their welfare. I had my cat done yesterday with Advantage and fleabombed the living room with a flea bomb, left overnight to work.

Best of luck but don`t delay, deal with it straight away!

What flea bomb do you use? Thanks!

I know that, I've also seen the downside of them.

Re: Fleas

Hi, if you don't want to use chemicals try flea traps. Put "flea trap" on YouTube and you'll find some useful videos how to construct your own flea trap.
This summer I had a huge problem with fleas although my cats are only indoors. As an additional help, I bought a flea killer from Amazon: Flea Killer: Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies Only about £10 but it really helped to catch and detect if there were still any in the flat.

My opinion is that it is difficult, almost impossible, to get rid of fleas without chemicals. I know how you feel but fleas are dangerous to your cats and to you.

I love you. Going to buy this stuff and give it a whirl.

And thank you dragonlady, I'll check out youtube later and see if I can build one. If not that one on amazon looks decent!

My cats have been treated and are treated regularly, but i never know if these things work especially with the fleas living in the carpet. But the flea trap will help to find out just how many of those buggers I'm dealing with and whether or not treatment is effective. Thanks guys.
