Poorly Purdy

Hi all Hope you don't mind but I need some advice again We took purdy to the vets for 10 o clock this morning to have her first injection and she was also given a combined worm/flea treatment. All was fine for the first hour when we came home, she was racing round and playing as normal, but after the first hour she has become very lethargic, hardly opening her eyes and feels warmer than usual to touch. She didnt even move when I started hoovering and that is soo not like her, i've seen her drink some water but she hasn't eaten yet which i'm not too worried about as its only been 2 half hours. Has anyone else experienced this with their kitten I rang the vets and spoke to the new receptionist who wasn't too helpful and a bit snooty really and she said if she is the same later this afternoon to take her back in, I'm worried about her

Re: Poorly Purdy

It is quite normal for them to have a sleep afterwards.
I am sure she will be fine.
We took our one year old for her boosters last month and she is normally quite lively but she slept all afternoon and into the early evening.

If she seems a little off the next day then I would give the vet a ring but I am sure she will be fine.
They are a worry arn't they???

Re: Poorly Purdy

My two are older, but are normally a bit quieter for 24 hours after their booster. Hopefully your kitten will have a good sleep and wake up a bit more lively, but if she is lethargic, not eating or drinking then I would certainly give the vet a call.

Re: Poorly Purdy

Hope she's feeling a bit better by now?

Oscar was very quiet after his injections (though I don't remember him feeling hot), I got quite worried about him as it's so unlike him (oh how they worry us). Still, if she's no better perhaps you should play it safe and see the vet?

Re: Poorly Purdy

Thanks for your replies, they are such a worry its like having another child she's been pretty much the same since I last posted except she managed a little bit ham and to come over for a cuddle afew mins ago its awful seeing her poorly I might ring the vets again and ask to speak to the vet this time not the receptionist, I hope they don't think i'm making a big deal out of nothing, I knew she would be a bit sleepy afterwards but didn't think she would have as strong a reaction to it as she has, feel really sorry for her

Re: Poorly Purdy

My two went for their 1st injections this morning and almost as soon as they got home, they retired to my bed and have not left since. They are sleeping, feel a bit hot and not interested in food - not even the roast chicken that one of them was crawling up me to eat last night! However, the vet did warn me that they can be a bit poorly after their injections, so not to worry. I'm sure they'll be good tomorrow, as will Purdy.

Re: Poorly Purdy

Hi Rebecca J,
Just to put your mind at rest, when my I took my kitten for his first vaccination at 10 weeks old he was ok for the first hour and then was crashed out for the next 14 hours. He only went to his litter tray and drank water once because I carried him to it. I was so worried that when i went to bed i had him on a cushion by my pillow and wasnt sleeping but at 2 o'clock in the morning he started purring and got up to eat and use the litter tray! I was som relieved!
I hope that by now Purdy is beginning to feel better

Re: Poorly Purdy

Well, she's just stuffed her face with half a pouch and had a bit wander round and a cuddle so although she's still feeling sorry for herself I think she is getting better The stuff the vet put on the back of her neck stinks of chemicals urghh. I'v never known a pet to have such an expressive face she reminds me of my children when they are unwell, her eyes are really heavy and her ears are set back and turned out to the sides like she is disgusted with the whole thing

Re: Poorly Purdy

Glad she's eating - sounds like it's the vaccs them.

Some humans have funny reactions to them as well - especially babies so I guess it's all normal.
