Fleas?
Hi All
About a year ago my Rocco (now 2 years old) kept on getting sore patches around his neck area. He was scratching a lot at the time and the patches were noticibly visible as he'd get a little bald patch where he'd been scratching. Just looked like a sore area due to scratching, no open wound, not bleeding etc. The sore patches would scab up after a few days then go. This happened 3 or 4 times. He'd get one, it would go, then a few weeks later he'd get another. Didn't seem to bother him at all and he was still perfectly OK in himself.
I wondered if it could be fleas (even though he is an indoor cat) but couldn't see anything so I put some Frontline on anyway and took him to the vets. They couldn't see any evidence of fleas either. They shone what I think was an ultraviolet light on the sore area to see if showed anything up (not sure what they were looking for?) but it showed nothing.
The vet said to carry on with the Frontline as they couldn't see anything wrong. I did this and after a few weeks it cleared up.
That was a year ago and there has been nothing since, until this morning when I noticed a sore patch on the back of his neck. He's been scratching a bit again recently and I've been checking him but could not see anything until now. No evidence of fleas, not that I've ever seen fleas but I'm sure I'd see something? Again he's fine in himself, not bothering him at all.
Also, my 15 week old kitten has been scratching a bit but I've checked him and can't see anything either. My other 17 week old kitten hasn't been scratching at all.
Could this be fleas even though there has never been any evidence of them? All of the cats I've ever had have always been indoor cats and none of my previous cats have ever had fleas even though I know it can still happen in indoor cats. Just seems strange that he would keep getting them? Is there anything else anyone could think it might be?
Thanks
Debbie
