Sardines?

Have you ever given your kitten / cat sardines?

If you have, then should they be the ones in tomato sauce only?

Should I particularly get the tins which says 'boneless'?

What quantity did you feed and did you mix the sardines in with your kitten's other food or just gave the sardines by themselves?

Re: Sardines?

I give my cat's tinned sardines, mackerel and pilachards. I buy the ones in brine, or spring water if they have it.

Tesco have sardines on offer at the moment at 38p.

All but the fruit of the tomato plant is poisonous
One link states that all of the tomato plant inc. fruit is toxic, the other gives the impression that the fruit is okay. In the thread over in Cat Chat listing plants toxic to cats, it specifically lists the green fruit as toxic rather than ripe tomatoes. It'd be nice to have this cleared up, but really since there's no need to feed tomatoes to cats at all it'd probably be best avoided.

Re: Sardines?

Also, the PAH Purely range contains tomato, I'd imagine they're not the only ones (they're just the first that came to mind)...

Shall stop derailing your thread by thinking out loud now!

Re: Sardines?

You are right the wording does suggest that however the fruit contains tomatine which is toxic but does diminish slightly as the fruit ripens. I just remember a vets advice on feeding anything with tomatoes - he said 'don't' it's not worth the risk.

Re: Sardines?

Yes, mine have sardines occasionally but always in oil. I would never have considered buying the tomato one.

I am not really sure why I thought I should select the ones in tomato sauce - perhaps I read it somewhere

Have you ever given your cats Brisling?
