8 Week Old Kitten With Weepy Eyes - Please Help!

Hey guys,

Glad I found this forum but I must warn you I am a complete newbie when it comes to cats.

I had a cat as a kid and that is as far as my experience goes.

Anyway...

Got an eight week old kitten and she is gorgeous however she has developed slightly weepy, runny eyes.

It looks as though she has been crying and a little bit gunky if you know what I mean?

Really worried to be honest.

Also she does seem quiet, sleeps a lot and has no interest in playing with toys, maybe like 5 mins at a time.

Just looking for some advice?

She is quite a small kitten and really worried about the eye thing.

Any help would be awesome?

Glad to be here and thanks in advance for any help you can give?

Chris

Thanks Hazel,

Will be doing this first thing tomorrow - however is there anything I can do?

Do you know of anything that works well with weepy eyes in kittens, or any sign of what it could mean?

Sorry for all the questions just want to make sure little Maisy gets better!

Chris

Re: 8 Week Old Kitten With Weepy Eyes - Please Help!

Hi, welcome to the forum!

My Alex had a similar issue when we got him and it was snuffles. It's like a flu/cold virus. It's nothing serious and the vet gave us a nutritional supplement (Felisine) and some drops for his eyes. He never got snuffles again .

Go to the vet tomorrow and see what he/she says.

Good luck!

Defnitely a trip to the vet is needed. As you are new I am sure you do not realise that this kitten is way too young to be taken from her mother. She needed to stay until she was 12 weeks, to get a bit more strength and immunity, and of course, had her vaccinations before leaving.

She needs to go to the vet and speak to him about getting her vaccinated soon.

I had no idea truly!

The Woman we got her from said she has been wormed.

Will take her down the vets first thing.

Wormed is one of the things they need doing, sometimes flea treatments but personally mine get flea'd if they have fleas and so far, so good.

Vaccinations are important and the vet will be able to talk to you in more detail about them, usually done at 9 and 12 weeks

Thanks for the help.

I hope she is alright - I read somewhere that the mother cleans the eyes and this could be the source of the runny eyes?

Re: 8 Week Old Kitten With Weepy Eyes - Please Help!

It could just be an eye infection but it could be that the stress of moving to a new home has been enough to trigger some other viral problem and the eyes are just a symptom. As she is also quiet/sleepy it is imperative you get this kitten to a vet asap just in case. At this age they're too little to take a risk.
