Re: A bit worried
Thanks paddypaws. Hubby thinks I'm worrying for nothing, but I'm like that with my pussycats.
I just tried him again with some pate, he's interested but I think its his jaw thats hurting after having the wire taken out. Has anyone had a cat who needed a wire in the jaw? |

Re: A bit worried
Have you tried mashing the food up with some warm water so it's lappable up if his jaw is sore (which I would imagine it is) and the warm water will make it smell more and hopefully encourage his eating, but I would also call the vet just to be on the safe side.

Re: A bit worried
Thank you very much for your tips and replies, very appreciated.
I just phoned the vets they said pop in and pick up some metacam, but it MUST be taken with some food. I said thats the problem tho he's not eating! So she said give it a try and if he doesn't eat it then I'll have to take him in. |

Re: A bit worried
When Eva came back from being spayed, she was very, very sleepy. She was barely conscious all that evening and for most of the night (we checked on her a couple of times), even falling asleep sitting up because she was too tired to move and lie down. The next day, she had mostly recovered from the anaesthetic, but she was still quieter than usual.
She didn't eat much until the afternoon of the day after her operation, and that was without having a sore mouth. I'd agree with the other suggestions to mush his food up with warm water. Give him something that he always tucks into enthusiastically, and liquidise it if necessary so he can just lap it up and swallow.

Re: A bit worried
Well I've just got back from the vets with Vinny and I'm so angry
![]() The vet said "Lets take a look at the little chap shall we" and as she opened his mouth we could both see why he was so unhappy, right in his bottom jaw was a 1cm piece of wire sticking up hitting the roof of his mouth! The surgeon had left it in by mistake. The vet apologised and said this visit was free, but to be perfectly honest I'm not happy with that at all. I will be writing a letter of complaint. But other than that I don't know what to do? Vinny has just eaten some hills ad with mashed up prawns so thats a relief, he's got some metacam and he had an antibiotic shot & a painkiller at the vets. So all in all I'm so glad he's eating and looking perkier, but I'm also so upset with the vets for putting him through this. |
