Feeding Rant

I'm feeling rather pi$$ed off lately with the feeding situation. I'll apologize in advance, i feel moany but don't have anyone else i can moan to

I started off feeding on a rotational basis with the following foods;

Smilia cans
Animonda Carny cans
Bozita cans
Bozita Tetrapacks
Hi Life essentials cans
Raw beef mince
Raw chicken wings

This was working brilliantly and was all i fed for months with great success.

After a few months they went of the Smilia and refused it completely.

Gradually they refused the Animonda, and the Bozita cans too.

Until a few weeks ago they were still eating the Bozita tetrapacks and Hi Life cans, and occasionally the mince and chicken wings.

Now they are refusing the Bozita (i have 6 different flavours) and aren't keen on the High Life. I bought Grau cans for a change but they won't even TOUCH those!!

All they will happily eat is RC dry food which i didn't want to solely feed.

I'm not a lover of dry and i have one cat who is prone to UTI's so it's not ideal by any means.

My cupboards are FULL of all these foods, i have LOADS of each and it's so annoying!!

I continue every day trying different wet foods but it has been going into the bin every day for around 2 weeks.

This is driving me mad and i just had to 'let it out'!!

I have a pregnant girl just now so can't leave her with nothing either.

Re: Feeding Rant

Deepest sympathies hun - they really are just fussy little sh*ts sometimes.

My lot tried to 'go off' Smilla but when they found that nothing else was going to be forthcoming for that meal, they soon ate it up.

I am currently able to feed a mix of Smilla, Bozita tins & Animonda Carney and they get a different brand each meal time. I am planning to get some Butchers Choice to chuck in there too just to remind them what cheaper food tastes like!!!!! Knowing my luck, they'll bl**dy luv it!!!!!

Good luck with yours hun, I don't envy you this....

Re: Feeding Rant

How frustrating! I feel your pain, Arnold started to get really picky before the kittens came along but now theres competition he's a lot better.

Can you feed your pregnant girl separately for now? I would give her whatever she will eat and with the others stop the dry completely and you might find they're interested in wet again. I've been giving mine dry since Leo and Lottie came home because they were fed if before but they've all started hassling me for more food when there is still wet in their bowl which is annoying given the amount I spend on it for them, so I've not put dry down for 2 days and low and behold, clean bowl! Little buggars.

Re: Feeding Rant

Winnie gets like this, she's currently on a hunger strike as for some reason she has also decided that she now doesn't like Smilla.

She's loved it for ages but yesterday ......

I'm not giving in this time though she can cry around her food cupboard all she wants but she's having what she's given

Re: Feeding Rant

When my bunch were getting a bit hearsey over the Smilla - well, it was mostly Oscar tbh - I mixed it up with Animonda (which he lurves) and it would get totally scoffed up. After a few meals like that, he started eating the Smilla again just fine.

I think they do it on purpose just to wind us up.......

Because they know they can!!!!!!

Definitely, Winnie usually does it just when I've ordered a load of her 'favoruite' food. She turns her nose up then walks around wailing as if she's been starved.

Basil takes full advantage of the situation & scoffs hers as well which means she cries even more when she returns to her bowl & there's nothing left!

Re: Feeding Rant

I hear ya too hun! Misi has crf and these cats are notoriously fussy with food. At one time I had 5 things on the go. I have Bozita that she loved and now won't eat, Mac's, all the way from Deutschland, won't eat it, Tiger, also from Germany, also now a no-no, after loving it at the start. Beaphar renal, and Kattovit low protein, which she'll tolerate, sometimes. Her favourite, favourite is raw, especially chicken, but she has stomatitis and can't always handle raw. She's now got a cold as well, so can't smell raw... Sigh! So, I treated her to some Forza 10 stinky tuna stuff, which used to be her other favourite, but that wouldn't do. Currently on the go I have some new stuff from the local pet shop which is all natural and grain-free, the Forza 10 and raw chicken. She ate a bit of raw chicken this morning, so progress indeed. She's about to be syringe-fed the new stuff, so tough-titty if she doesn't like it. What a palaver!!! So yes... know what you mean!

Re: Feeding Rant

I'm not surprised you feel like having a rant. I certainly did. I think ours was used to wh***s for 9 years before we got him so it's a big step forward for us to have got him onto Purely and Hi-life. The yummy scrummy and NH either ended up in next doors cats or the bin.

Re: Feeding Rant

Thanks for all the replies, i'm so glad that i'm not alone.

I did start with feeding Socks (pregnant) on her own but can't any longer. She's the only one of the 4 that can or will jump onto the kitchen worktops so i fed her there but she's almost 7 weeks pregnant now so too big (bless her).

I don't mind them having the RC dry, but don't want it to be their main diet.

Today i have out:

Bowl of Smilia Fish
Bowl of RC dry
Bowl of raw mince

Not much happening...

Re: Feeding Rant

Have you tried letting them see you physically push a few RC bits into their food ... so they can see them but would have to eat some of the meat to get to them? Or crush some up and sprinkle them on top.
