Woldsway Whole Wild Rabbit, minced

Rabbit Pet Meat

What do i need to add to make this complete in terms of the 80/10/5/5?

Whole Wild Rabbit, minced, frozen. Ref: wp065WD
Wild rabbit, skinned and gutted, but including all the meat, liver, kidneys, heart, lungs & bones - all finely minced and supplied frozen in 0.5kg packs. Approx. 65 % meat content.

I think it's going to have too much bone, so will need X amount of meat added. Any clue how much more?

Thanks.

Re: Woldsway Whole Wild Rabbit, minced

Good choice, I buy from Woldsway and I've always found their quality and service excellent.

I feed raw but I don't get bogged down in percentages. Each individual meal I feed my cats may not be complete according to the guideline of 80/10/5/5. But over about a week, my cats get a balanced diet. If they have a bone-heavy meal one day, then they have less bone and more meat/organ the next, etc. I feed a wide variety of different meats and some fish. Check the poop daily to make sure you are on track.

Of course there is nothing wrong with aiming to feed each meal complete. If you feel the Woldsway rabbit does not match the guideline ratio on its own, just add some more meat to it. Doesn't have to be rabbit, could be chicken, beef, or whatever your cat likes.

Re: Woldsway Whole Wild Rabbit, minced

Only 65% meat, interesting. I knew whole rabbit carcasses tended to be somewhat bone heavy but did not know it was scewed by this much. This...and the fact that rabbit is extremely low fat explains why a lot of cats get constipated eating purely rabbit.
I would do as others do and add some more 'meat' of whatever variety....heart would be a good choice as minced rabbit is low in taurine I think.
( Oh, come on Hobbs....come out of retirement and remind me what that study was, done on a colony of cats fed solely on minced rabbit.....
Ianthi and spid like this.

I would have thought if its the whole rabbit then its a perfect ratio of meat/organs to bones, surely? I think if you start adding more meat you really will skew the ratios. As others have said, I'd probably add taurine though to compensate for depletion due to processing.

Re: Woldsway Whole Wild Rabbit, minced

I put in an order today. I asked David if they could do an extra meaty whole wild mince and he said:

"it's not likely that we will be able to add that at the moment: every new product means more dedicated freezer space etc and that's very much at a premium at the moment! You could always mix in the boneless wild rabbit to bring the meat content up to where you want it (which I presume is what you're going to do?). The wp065 (whole wild rabbit mince) is what we were asked to produce (a few years ago now) by an expert cat breeder who said it was the natural and perfect diet for cats and that's been confirmed by several Vets - and that product is by far our most popular item!"

Thanks for this quote, Tylah.

Most interesting is that several vets said that raw minced rabbit was the perfect natural diet for cats, when most vets are on the make with Science Diet and Royal Canin!

Wonder who these vets are? They are like gold dust, that's for sure!
