Cat sneezing

We brought home our two cats from the animal sanctuary yesterday afternoon and since then one of them has been sneezing quite a bit. The rescue centre didn't say that she had been sneezing so I think it's a new thing to her being here.

Do you think she's just not used to this environment and it will pass or should I take her to the vets?

Thanks.

I've never owned a cat before so this is all new to me!

Re: Cat sneezing

It's possible it's an allergic reaction that will settle down, but I'd take her to the vet straight away (definitely tomorrow) just in case.

Re: Cat sneezing

Or a respiratory infection! The stress due to change in environment can lower their immune system so this might explain why he showed no symptoms in the rescue.

See how it goes and then a vet visit if no improvement.
ChinaBlue and Dally Banjo like this.

Re: Cat sneezing

Willow sneezes loads - I asked the vets last week at her second injection, they listened to her chest and asked me if she was snotty - all she sneezes is like water - they checked her eyes, ears, throat - and then told me she was just a sneezy cat!
So unless she has green snot, runny eyes or a wheezy chest she is probably fine and checking with the vet next week wont be a problem

Re: Cat sneezing

is she snotty or has she runny eyes? usually if it is cat flu you will soon know it as can come on in 24-48 hours. do the sneezes sound dry?

Re: Cat sneezing

It could be she may be allergic to the cat litter you are using but it is most likely to be down to stress i.e. change of environment but if she starts getting runny eyes may be worth popping her down to the vet for a quick once over.

I think they're wet sneezes but I'm really not sure some have sounded dry. Isn't cat flu fatal? I have another cat too, should I keep them seperate so she doesn't give it to the other?

Re: Cat sneezing

if your other cat isnt sneezing then it might be an idea to keep them separate until you know how they both are.
i wouldnt say cat flu is fatal but it is best to get them treated with antibiotics and not leave it. how long has she been sneezing for now?

usually they would lose their appetite and sometimes stop drinking if they are really ill.
