Re: Cat sneezing

she's been sneezing pretty much since she got here on Saturday. its definitely wet as she gets snot on her whiskers (its white/clear). She seems fine in every other way; her eyes are fine and she's got a good appetite for food and water.

Re: Cat sneezing

Benji's sneezes never had any green snot but he has calici virus, his sneezes were just a little bit wet with clear fluid. So just because the snot isn't green doesn't mean they are ok! Best to get her checked by the vets, and if any symptoms continue get a test for the three cat flu viruses.

Re: Cat sneezing

Thank you. I'll be booking her into the vets (need to find one first!) for her booster vaccines and will mention it then. As she's come from a rescue centre they've given her vaccinations etc so I'm hoping it's nothing more than being a bit sensitive to her new environment although we did vacuum everywhere before they arrived (it was as if the Queen was coming to tea the way we were cleaning before we brought them home so that everything was perfect for them!)

Re: Cat sneezing

Animals can "catch" viruses just as people can. They will often be self limiting provided the cat is otherwise healthy. One of the biggest problems with cats is when they feel poorly they have a tendency to stop eating. Getting them to eat when they feel ill can be a real challenge. If the cat is over weight this poses other potentially life threatening issues.

Watch your cat carefully, be sure he is eating and keep him indoors if he goes out. If his eyes become involved (discharge, signs of discomfort such as squinting etc), or if he stops eating, or there is colored discharge from the nose he should see the vet right away.

Of course sneezing can be caused by things other than viruses but that is the most common.
