So it's ok to let a young cat not eat much for that length of time? The cold turkey thing was what I was trying to do on the days I witheld the dry until the evening - tbh it worried me a lot that he'd eaten virtually nothing all day. I get the feeling he's stubborn - as soon as I put the dry down and he's had some of it he eats the wet he's been refusing for hours!!

I'll also miss the dry food games we play if I get rid of it competely - Oscar can catch dry food in his front paws, it's very cute - but I do want what's best for him so I'll give it another try. Thanks for the advice

Mine didn't not eat for that long they ate the other WET food instead. I meant go cold turkey by not putting out the dry and ignoring their pleas. I've not had a single cat ever refuse what food there is out for more that 12 hours. Normally it disappears over night cos they won't admit they are hungry in front of you. My Minnii is being a Minx at the moment and deciding she doesn't want raw or wet but dry. She is feed in the kitchen where the kitten can't jump up to - all the food goes overnight - I know it's only her eating it, but boy does she make a fuss in the daytime! She won't starve herself but she does like her displeasure to be known.

Re: Has anyone else given up....

No I understand that - I didn't mean I didn't feed him, I meant that he refused to eat the wet without having dry as well. I don't think he likes any wet food enough to tempt him when it's dry he wants. I got up this morning and he hasn't touched last night's wet food because there was no dry with it, I think.

I remember a simillar battle of wills with my older boy (my pre forum days)when all he wanted was Gourmet Perle - he ate very little (and I mean hardly anything, he'd just take one sniff and walk away from the bowl and I chucked it away the next day) for almost a week before I gave in and started giving him Gourmet all the time (which he imediately started eating all of). I realise now how bad that is for cats but he was really having none of it - funnily enough I've had no trouble at all coverting him to an all wet diet, he's just delighted to be getting more tins and sachets!

Maybe I've just got stubborn cats. I think I'll just continue to try and gradually reduce the dry Oscar gets - at least I kow he's eating then.

Re: Has anyone else given up....

Hi Chewie, could you perhaps try crushing some dry food into little bits, and sprinkling it on top of the wet food? He might try a bit then. Just a thought

Re: Has anyone else given up....

Benji ate mostly dry (RC kitten) when we got him with a pouch of whiskas for dinner. I just switched him on to a high protein wet which he loved and he hasn't really looked back since. They go get some Acana/Orijen left down for them during the day to get them through, but only a small bowl between them as they have a tin of food morning, early evning and night anyway!
