help - which is worse after being spayed, licking and biting wound or running around?

Hello,

I have being reading back and I can't find a similar thread so apologies if I am posting this in the wrong place.

My six month old kitten was spayed today, they said she all of her stitched were inside and they had put glue on the wound as an extra safety measure.

They gave me a 'buster collar' and said she couldn't lick the wound as it would introduce bacteria and cause an infection, but she only needed to wear the collar if she is alone. Well now she is fully awake and is being very persistent about trying to lick her wound, at one point even biting it. So I put the collar on her and now she is trying to get it off, this has been going on for a about 5 minutes, and I am worried she is moving around too much, as I was also told she needed 'strict rest'.

Her wound or whatever I shoudl call it looks ok, a bit bumpy and brown, but I think the brown stuff is just the glue.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Rebecca

I dont think either are very good but personally I would think biting the wound directly would be worse than moving is there any way she can be in a small ish room like a bathroom to restrict movement a little?

neither are good....if she chews the wound she could open it up and/or introduce infection. You also don't want her moving around too much as there is the slight chance that that could cause internal bleeding. Although if I had to choose i'd say keep the collar on her as there is a very real risk of her opening up the wound if she's licking and chewing at it
Has she settled down now? Most cats will put up with the collar after the initial protest.

Thanks for replying so quickly.

I have left it on, and she isn't frantically running around backwards and so on anymore. She is now just slowly walking around, I think she is trying to settle but can't get comfy so fingers crossed she will get worn out again soon. I think it is best to leave her to do this as picking her up for cuddles would surely be bad too?

The only other time I remember having a cat spayed was 7 years ago and I'm sure she was much better behaved!
