Smilla?

We've now been successfully feeding Animonda Vom Feinsten & Raw2go mince with chicken wings once a week for over 2 weeks, but I've been reading that others on here rotate the brands of food they use. Is this essential or is it purely to prevent boredom? I quite like the look of Smilla & I could order it along with the Animonda

Re: Smilla?

We are yet to try Animonda thats on its way and hopefully here monday.

Smilla is great my cats adore it. We have the Tuna and Sardine variety and it has real chunks of fish in it.

We found a fish head and eyeball yet again this morning and i am afraid i did a girlie scream lmao

Vom Feinsten? Not Carny? Better value for money

A lot of people find one brand of cat food and stick to it. In particular, a lot of people seem to think that kittens have sensitive stomachs and shouldn't be exposed to too much variety to avoid upsets.

However, contrary to those beliefs and practices, one certain "do" when it comes to wet (and dry) feeding in my opinion is to find a few (say 3 or 4) brands of food of equal quality that your cats will eat and feed them and their flavours in rotation. That is for three main reasons:

1) it helps combat possible boredom with their food
2) no food is perfect and by feeding a few different foods you are maximising the chance that you are feeding a balanced diet in terms of nutrients (and are minimising the likelihood of any harm if you are feeding a food that has got a nutritional problem or that is in some way contaminated)
3) if a manufacturer changes the recipe or even discontinues a certain product you are feeding then you are not stuck up the creek scrambling around for something else your cats might eat. And them tinkering with their recipes happens more often than you might think.

Re: Smilla?

I bought some before and my cats sicked it up (though theyve sicked other things up before also, so its not just a Smilla thing) but to me I just didnt like the look of it at all. Not that i look at other cat food and wanna eat it, but just didnt look appetising to me.

Its something to try for sure though, your cats might love it! Im just choosing to feed Bozita as my cheapy 70% ish food

Rotating certainly isnt essential but yes it prevents boredom, it helps if your cats go off a certain brand, or if a brand changes its recipe and then it doesnt agree with your cats anymore

Ive not fed vom feinstein myself, I only feed carny.

Oh dear, my mental maths was probably way off, I just though 'ooh £16.99 that's good value!' I will try the Carny when we do our next order, I've currently got a cupboard full of VF

Re: Smilla?

I used to feed Smilla to my cat and she loved it. I know I would love it if I were a cat... big chunks of whole sardines and chicken hearts . Yum! But after she tried Animonda and Bozita, she doesn't like Smilla anymore.

Berger is on a distinguished road
Re: Smilla?

yeah I was recently suckered into the 18 for 12 Smilla Tuna & Sardine offer on Zooplus. Boris has been a bit fussy all round recently, and is very distractable from eating anyway, but he really doesn't fancy it. I've given 6 away to a work colleague.

As someone said, it looks very appetising, all chunks of real fish etc, but he just doesn't fancy it much at all.

Unfortunately, all he really loves at the moment is dry food, which he has a little bit of at night (I sometimes withhold this if he's not finished his afternoon meal, which is often). It's Porta 21 as detailed on this site, but still following Hobbs' advice, don't want him to overload on dry. He never drinks his water really
