Exclamation Accident, hip damage, help?!

Hi there,

I've been a reader for a while but I've signed up today cos I really need your help.

My poor 7 month old kitten, Elbie, had an accident last night and is currently at the vets waiting for her xray so we can tell what is wrong with her and work out a plan for her treatment. She is a smashing little girl, black and white short haired domestic...with the most chilled out temperament of any cat I have ever known.

Amongst my obvious worries as to her well being, another blow this morning was that there was a problem with our insurance policy that we signed up for online and she isn't covered. Now obviously, she is our baby, and we will do whatever it takes to make sure she gets better, but at the same time, these things can end up costing a small fortune.

I wondered if any of you knew about any good emergency cover I could get, I know i will have to pay a premium, but if she ends up needing a lot of treatment...well it will just mean I can afford to say yes to everything the vet needs to do to make her better.

I'm sorry to have jumped in at the deep end with this problem, and i have posted something of similar subject in the introductions of the forum (so please don't be annoyed with me reposting, just in desperate need of advice). I will keep you posted on Elbie's recovery, at the moment the vet thinks she may have a dislocated hip and damage to her bladder poor mite so I may be asking for advice also on how best to care for my little one when she is back at home and we know quite what has happened to her.

Thanks for all your help

Lucy

Poor paws I dont think you will get another insurance company to cover this treatment, they will class it as an existing condition & most policies wont come into force for 14day's except for accidents. I would try again with your existing company.

Wishing her a very speedy recovery x & welcome to the mad house

I am sorry, but I'm sure you won't be covered for a pre-existing condition. Your vet will have to sign off the paperwork for the insurers and they are sure to pick up re: dates.

If money is an issue, mentioned this to the vet and ask how much treatment is costing at each stage.

The damage might not be as you think. My cat had an accident while I was a way on holiday and her back leg was totally twisted in and she couldn't straighten her back. The vet ended up giving her a muscle relaxant in the end. She found it hard to get around the first week or so and a litter tray was put out in the house, but it absolutely fine now, so fingers crossed for your little one.
