Spot on lip?

Last Thursday I noticed a scab on my cat's lip (and prior to that it looked red for a couple of weeks). The scab soon came off and she now had a little red lump there. Obviously I'm keeping on eye on this for changes but if it's the same at the weekend I plan to take her to the vet.

I just wondered how soon other people would expect a spot (if that's what it is) to clear or if you have any other thoughts? She seems like her normal happy self, is very playful at the moment and is eating well, but as she is 12 it would be something more sinister.

Re: Spot on lip?

Cats get acne around the lip and mouth area. But individual spots usually clear up rather quicky before others appear.

Did it have a yellow head at one point? Which would indicate acne/spot?

What you are describing has been there longer than an acne spot, I would take your cat asap to the vet. It could be various things, including a benign/malignant tumour which would need urgent treatment. Or could be an allergic reaction response or eosinophilic granuloma. The list goes on, it is anyones guess. It has been there a while now on your cats mouth, so I think a vets visit is a must!

Fingers crossed, it is something innocent like an inflammatory lesion! x

Re: Spot on lip?

Many thanks for your reply. I haven't been able to see a yellow head on it and I know it's not cat acne as she's had that on the chin in the past, that's why I was wondering how long a spot should take to clear up. My husband is away at mo with the car, so will make an appointment for a couple of days time when it's easy to get to vet without troubling my neighbours (fingers crossed it will disappear by then!).

Re: Spot on lip?

One of the vets at my clinic told me my cat had cat acne and wanted me to buy stuff for it. i told her it wasn't acne the cat was born with a yellowish bib under its chin she is 16 and still has it, no other vet has ever thought it was acne. Don't know what scholl this one went too...lol
