Emails from nature's menu (taurin)

Here's a transcript of my emails with some staff from Nature's Menu.
I was asking about the level of Taurine in their pouches.
(Natures Menu Adult Cat Food Mixed Select 100gm 48 Pack | Pets at Home)

My original email
Typical Analysis
Protein: 11.0%, Oil: 6.0%, Fibre: 0.2%, Ash: 2.5%, Moisture: 81.0%. Vit.A: 2000 I.U./Kg, Vit.D3: 200 I.U./Kg, e Vit.E (alfatocoferol): 16mg/Kg. Taurin: 300 mg/Kg.
As far as I am aware, 300mg/Kg is extremely low amount of Taurin. Am I missing something here? Also - why do the percentages above add up to 100.7%?

Nature's Menu
Thank you for your email and interest in our range. The Taurine level on the packaging is the amount of Taurine which is added. Taurine is naturally present within the product and the 300mg is what is added to ensure it meets a cats requirements.

You are correct in the analysis adding up to 100.7%. We are currently updating our packaging and this will be corrected.

Me
Just to confirm, it's 300mg per kg and not 300mg per sachet?
Any idea how much is in the overall product? Like I said, it does seem a bit low. (I'm no vet, but I've read they need up to 1000mg/kg). I'm considering topping up the nature's menu pouches with a supplement if needed.

Nature's Menu
It is 300mg per kg, not per pouch, Cats need 2,000/kg per day. The pouches will contain everything your cat needs as they are a complete food.

Me
If the pouches have an added 300mg/kg does that mean the food itself has a natural amount of 1,700mg/kg taurin to make up approximately the 2,000mg/kg you said the cat needs?

Nature's Menu
Yes, we would have tested the pouches before adding any Taurine to enable us to find out how much needed to be added.

I must say, they were quick and polite with their responses Personally I'm taking this as positive news, since they acknowledge the high amount of taurine needed and appear to tailor their recipe around that.

Re: Emails from nature's menu (taurin)

Kudos to you for taken the initiative to find out more.

PS: The crude analyses don't always add up to 100 as decimal points are rounded up (or down).
