Do I need to bulk them up a bit?

The kittens are about 5 months old, Spencer weighs 2.4kg and Skye 1.9kg (This may have changed since last week when they were weighed at the vets). Spencer is long but skinny and I can feel his bones when he lies on me. Skye is more short and dumpy although you can feel both their shoulder blades when you pet them, is this normal? Just wondering if I need to bulk them up a bit as not sure if I should be able to feel their bones? They feel quite skinny although don't actually look it?

Re: Do I need to bulk them up a bit?

When you get them neutered they should bulk up fine My boy Kerry was like that, he seemed very skinny but he was fine, and when he got neutered he gained some weight and is now perfect. I think they burn off more energy before they're done and when they're younger also. Just feed them as much as they want (you shouldn't limit what you feed a kitten) and they'll be fine.

Thanks, they get unlimited food and the vet said their weights were fine. They will be getting neutered in about 5 or 6 weeks so hopefully they'll bulk up a bit then.

Going on the 100g a week plus the 100g birth weight - at 20 weeks (5 months) they should be around 2.1 Kg - so Spencer is fine and Skye could do with a little more weight. If you can't feel their bones they are too fat.

Ah that's good, thanks I didn't know if it was normal to be able to feel them or not...but does seem a bit of a silly question now as obviously you will be able to feel them I think I was worried they were a bit more protruded than they should be.
