lump on a face

Hello. We've just found a lump on Harry's left cheek. It appeared there out of nowhere, last time we saw him for a cuddle (he is a proper boy spending most of the time sleeping hidden in the loft or wandering outside, doesnt even bother to come for breakfast and dinners..) and there's was nothing on his face and now is a massive looking lump.. Obviously tomorrow we are taking him to the vet but was only wondering if anyone had anything similar or has any idea what could it be? He hasn't got any visible schratches or injuries on there, the fur and skin seems to be in untouched (?probably wrong choice of word.. but hope you get what I mean..) Except of some kind of cyst we though maybe he got stang or something but then he is not one who really chases after wasps or bees.. I've attached a pic, too.. (I now it's not the clearest but it's there )

Re: lump on a face

Glad to hear he is off to the vets. I would say it is probably and abcess from another cat's bite. Often you can't see the puncture wound and they come up really fast. Hope Harry makes a speedy recovery!

Yep looks like a typical abcess on your cats face. Will need a vet trip for it to be drained. what time is your vet visit tomorrow? Hopefully its a morning app as you can then starve your cat tonight and take water up tomorrow so he can have the sedation tomorrow with no probs in order to drain it. Good luck. Hope your cat gets better soon xxxx

Re: lump on a face

Yep, looks like an abscess. And abscess come up really quick, after a bite from another cat. Often there is no scratches or bite marks. Just one very small puncture from a fang, that then creates the abscess. Could even be a dental problem. Will probably need drained, and a coures of anibiotics. Poor man, that WILL be very painful. Cats mask from us the pain they feel, very stoic.

If it was me I would be calling the vets now, but realise that may not be an option for you. First thing tomorrow would be the latest, don't wait until afternoon!

((((hugs)))))

Thank you for your supporting words!!
Yep we will be off to vet's first thing tomorrow (wanted to go today, but being it sunday our one's not there) so Harry had to go without his dinner tonight...and you can imagine the face when he realised! lol
I'll keep you posted what the vet said. Fingers crossed they get my boy back to his gorgeous self soon again!

Re: lump on a face

All vets have an out of hours service, when they are closed. But you pay extra for that service (usually from £60-£120) added onto bill. Vets' HAVE to provide this, some surgeries share this task between them. You could get him seen tonight.

Re: lump on a face

It has been a nasty bite indeed, when the vet shaved his cheek we found where the skin got pierced poor sausage All (hopefuly) out now, got antibiotics and having him on house arrest for a bit to make sure it doesnt swells up again... He is visibly relieved and feeling better already, scoffed his dinner in one go without stopping, and now having cuddles on the sofa with us
Thank you again for the support and your right guess!

Re: lump on a face

He's been sooo good - he's very desperate to get out but behaving good. Didnt use the litter tray but after breakfast I've left him out under my watch, eventually he did both of his needs and now back in, happily asleep upstairs and the wound is looking good, very clean (we keep cleaning it and he's doing very good job himself) And seems to be knowing that he cant scratch it too much otherwise it bleeds massively (yup it was one of the first things he did after getting home.. we were actually considering getting him collar because didnt want to be risking anything) but now he is very gentle if he's having a scratch.. Im very proud of my brave clever boy
