Dandruff has gone :)

I have to celebrate that all Biffy's dandruff has disappeared, I am hoping this is a sign that changing him over from mainly dry to mainly wet has actually has a positive impact. I spend so much time despairing because he won't take to the better cat foods, but actually have to recognise some progress has been made! He was mainly on Go-Cat, now he gets a little bit of GoCat, applaws dry and 3 X gourmet pouch meals a day. As I've never seen him drink water from either of his water bowls, even if this is mainly a sign he is better hydrated, that is good. I don't know if hydration has anything to do with cat dandruff really.

Re: Dandruff has gone :)

Yes, dandruff can definitely be a sign of dehydration. Glad it's cleared up!

Re: Dandruff has gone :)

Good news. Why not buy some Evening Primrose Oil capsules ( Holland and B will do ) and add a few drops to his meals through the week. This should give him a lovely soft coat and make sure the scurfy skin doesn't come back.
Salmon oil will also be good, or a treat of some sardines or mackerel once a week.

( you can use the EPO on your own skin too, its a great moisturiser. Just make sure you use the EPO and not the salmon oil for this! )

I have got some of that actually, I only tried putting it out once and he wouldn't eat, surprise, surprise! I had put a teaspoon in though, so should I try a smaller amount?

Re: Dandruff has gone :)

A teaspoon! Lord, way too much, especially as it does have a fairly strong odour/taste. Try a few drops in his food, or mixed in a teaspoon of creamy yoghurt, or last ditch attempt smeared down his leg so he has to clean it off!

With PP on this! A teaspoon is WAY TOO much. Start off with one drop and then over time build up to 2 or 3 drops a day.

Re: Dandruff has gone :)

Every time I want my cats to take an oily or liquid product which they hate, I simply apply it on the top of the nose, they will immediately clean it with their tongue. It's simply that easy

Congratulations on your work with the wet food, I KNOW how hard this can be.

Re: Dandruff has gone :)

Glad to hear it. One of my cats, the dry food junkie, had the same problem with dandruff and very dry skin. Nothing really worked. I tried goose fat, later Evening Primrose Oil.
Only a total diet change to wet food + raw has helped. I don't give any dry food (even the best one) as after such meals my cat is on strike next day/s and doesn't want to touch meat or raw food.
