Re: Aaaargh they won't eat their new food

The Thrive Chicken treats sprinkled over the top can help it be a little more tempting.

Re: Aaaargh they won't eat their new food

Thanks so much everyone.

As a couple of you suggested, I mixed a very small amount of Grau in with their usual dry food (Fish 4 Cats). They were certainly more interested in it than when I just put it in a bowl on its' own. 2 of the 3 ate a small amount and I have left it down overnight to see if anyone eats it. I know they won't starve themselves and they also have a bowl of plain dry if they want it, so they certainly won't go hungry.

I'll try them on the Bozita in a few days and see how they get on with that.

Thanks again

Moggybaby gave me a tip, mix a little water with it. Some cats find the density of it a little bit much and prefer it with more moisture.

Re: Aaaargh they won't eat their new food

Ooooh I will look out for those Thrive treats - are they available in Pets at Home or just online?

We've had a result with the Bozita, in that my two youngsters guzzled it down! Bozita seems to be much more 'normal' looking than Animonda Carny and Grau, but I will definitely try adding a little water to the Grau as seriously, I bought so much of the stuff they WILL eat it!!!

Off to look for Thrive treats now....

Thanks all!

Re: Aaaargh they won't eat their new food

Pets at Home and Waitrose sell them, the Chicken ones are favoured here and they do just crumble into a fine dust over the food as Maudey can sometimes turn her nose up at her dinner and a dusting of chicken gets her wolfing it down.

Re: Aaaargh they won't eat their new food

You could try soaking their 2/3 dry food in hot water for approx 30 mins. This will expand the kibbles and make them more like a wet food. Add in the final 1/3 dry before putting the food down to them so they still have crunchy bits. Hopefully this will help them to adapt to the difference that is wet & dry food as in same taste but different texture. If this goes down without too much hassle, then start to add little tiny bits of the wet food gradually altering the percentages over time.

Also, as already suggested, adding a slop of warm water (pre-boiled) to the wet food makes it easier for some cats to eat as the good stuff is just SO meaty or fishy. It certainly helped to get mine eating it.

I also have to mix the food up in the same bowl at times!!! So I mix Animonda with Bozita or Smilla because my lot prefer the Animonda over the other 2. Mixing it up together means they will still eat the stuff they are not so keen on.

Coolies thanks so so very much. I will certainly try the hot water trick, the Grau is definitely more like a pate consistency, as is the Animonda. The Bozita seems a far more edible consistency (lol not that I would know!!).
