Bozita chunks in gravy v Gourmet Perle

I've just read a comment from hobbs on another thread that the Bozita chunks aren't much better than other foods of that type, so I just want to check if people think I'm wasting my time here.

Getting Sam off Gourmet Perle is proving to be a big challenge. He will eat pate foods reluctantly, but his preference is always for the consistency of gravy. He's now only having the equivalent of 1 meal (out of 4) a day of Gourmet Perle, mixed in with other food, but I have to be realistic and recognise cutting it out completely is going to be unlikely unless I can find an alternative in gravy.

I ordered a couple of flavours of Bozita chunks in gravy the other day (along with some pate tetrapacks to add more food choices for them) in the hope that it will ultimately replace the Gourmet Perle. On Zooplus, it says it contains no cereals or sugar, which is the reason I chose it. Gourmet Perle has added sugar. Is the Bozita really that bad, or am I still making a step up from where we are now?

I think the fact is doesnt have the added sugar is obviously something better, and its a good idea to use the similar consistency if your cat is a bit hooked on that.

One of the reasons I dont use it much for feeding is because there is a lot of jelly and obviously the meat content only refers to meat, and not jelly so youre paying a lot of jelly So I stick with the pate

I agree with GM in the fact that you're paying for jelly rather than meat with those consistencies of food. I'm guessing that then means you will need to feed more as there isn't as much meat in a tin with jelly than the pate?

Re: Bozita chunks in gravy v Gourmet Perle

hi my kitty used to eat gourmet Perle (before i knew any better) and now eats Bozita as the consistency is very similar.

I've recently bought some of the Bozita pate as well as the Grau pate. Kayla defo prefers Bozita and I had to give Grau away (she was also sick on it).
She's not normally a pate loving cat but seems to like the Bozita one - although looking at it does seem to be less dry than the Grau

I do want to try some of the different brands on Zoo plus (be nice if they do like a mixed case of different brands) and was wondering which ones are a better bet than Bozita-although i have to say she does love the brand and I'm a bit hesitant in changing completely but do like to offer her a choice

It might be an idea to mix a little hot water to make the pate a bit juicier of the other brands, as most aren't as sloppy as Bozita and the water can make them a bit mushier.

Animonda is a good one to try as its got a lot of different flavours. personally I would say it was 'dryer' even than Grau, but nothing a little water shouldnt fix

Re: Bozita chunks in gravy v Gourmet Perle

My cat loves gravy and i had trouble trying to switch from a poor gravy cat food to a much better pate type until i mashed up the pate really thoroughly and mixed in plenty of water. I leave a few small chunks of pate too and he now takes it all

I wish I could get my Biffy to take as much Bozita as you're getting into your cat! I worry about the sugar content in gourmet perle. It is all relative isn't it? OK Bozita chunks in gravy might not be the absolute best but is it better than gourmet perle? Seems like it to me, I wish my cat hadn't started refusing to eat it! (How long did it take to get to the point you're at now?)

Re: Bozita chunks in gravy v Gourmet Perle

I do find there isn't actually a lot of jelly in the Bozita [or at least that's the case with what I'm feeding at moment]. Its only a small percentage of jelly to chunks. I do find they do dislike the pate ones though [although they will quite happily eat other pate food such as grau, petnatur etc.

Re: Bozita chunks in gravy v Gourmet Perle

Thanks for the answers. It's actually the Bozita in gravy I've ordered, not the jelly one, because Sam has never liked food in jelly. I did wonder if it was something to do with the gravy one being less nutritious overall because it's only the actual chunks that have a high meat content, but if it's a case of feeding him more of it, that isn't a problem.

I mix water with a lot of the pate style foods (and also with the Applaws fish he has mixed with Gourmet Perle once a day) because all our cats find them rather dry. They get one meal a day with Gourmet Perle/Gold mixed in, and in that case the gravy takes the place of the water.

We've been on the new feeding regime for about 3/4 weeks, I think. As I said Sam is on a ratio of 3:1 new food to old food, and Eva is about the same. I've changed Milly fully over to new food because I'm really hoping it will help with her stomach problems (although she's just turned her nose up at a plate of Grau that she'd normally eat, so I'm not sure what's going on there - hopefully she'll eat it later when she's more hungry). They're having Animonda Carny, Grau Gourmet Grain Free, Terra Felis (which Sam and Milly really love) and Sam is also having some Applaws. The Bozita will be a new addition.
