There is certainly something with cats and sugars/sweet things.

We always said Sam has a sweet tooth because he always begs for sugary foods when we're eating them. His favourite cat foods have always been from the Purina Gourmet range, and all/most of them contain added sugar. I suspect cats that eat those foods get a sugar high from them, and a correspending low when they are fed something else - hence they develop a taste for the added sugar food and the manufacturers sell more to unsuspecting owners.

Rather like whatever it is they put in Pringles to make them so addictive for humans.

Re: Natures Menu now contains no sugars

Thank you for the links Havoc I will look into it if things get worse. He likes Whiskas milk but has bad constipation so have stopped it for a while to see if it helps and he is now on Whiskas gravy and water, I find if I squeeze out the gravy from the pouch, then fill with water and keep squishing it around I get a lot per pouch, there is very little solid content in Oh So pouches and I can use the flavours he refuses to eat as he will drink the gravy.

I don't know what is going on with the NM

Unfortunately I double checked today in a store - the 300mg/kg is under Analytical Constituents. I've emailed them, so I wonder what they will say.

Yes but it doesn't make any sense to be talking about X amount per kg if it is part of the recipe. That is why I personally think that they have amalgamated the additives with the constituents on their labels. See what they say - their customer service is pretty good.

Your packaging states that 'Various Sugars' are present in your food pouches. What is this? The sugar in the food is naturally occuring dextrose, and therefore no sugar is added as an ingredient. We keep this in the food as the sugar acts as a vitamin carrier for all fat-soluble vitamins. There is only a minimal amount of 0.05%.
Lifted straight from the Natures Menu website.

Re: Natures Menu now contains no sugars

To be taken with a large pinch of salt me thinks - actually make that a heap of salt. The added bit has been discussed above but the little I know about metabolism and biochemistry (though someone more in the know can correct me) you don't need carbs to carry fat soluble vitamins, you need fat to utilise them (hence the name). Just plain old PR speak as far as I am concerned.

Re: Natures Menu now contains no sugars

Email I sent:
Hello,

I was thinking of starting to feed my cat Nature's Menu pouches.
However I was looking at the typical analysis;
Typical Analysis
Protein: 11.0%, Oil: 6.0%, Fibre: 0.2%, Ash: 2.5%, Moisture: 81.0%. Vit.A: 2000 I.U./Kg, Vit.D3: 200 I.U./Kg, e Vit.E (alfatocoferol): 16mg/Kg. Taurin: 300 mg/Kg.

As far as I am aware, 300mg/Kg is extremely low amount of Taurin. Am I missing something here? Also - why do the percentages above add up to 100.7%?

Thanks for any clarification you can offer,

Response:
Good afternoon,

Thank you for your email and interest in our range. The Taurine level on the packaging is the amount of Taurine which is added. Taurine is naturally present within the product and the 300mg is what is added to ensure it meets a cats requirements.

You are correct in the analysis adding up to 100.7%. We are currently updating our packaging and this will be corrected.

If there is anything further I can help with please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

I bought some NM on Saturday from PAH. The price was no different to what it usually is.

Are we speaking about NM kitten pouches or adult food?
