Re: Another raw food question
You can feed raw with supplies from the supermarket - its human grade, so therefore a higher grade than 'pet' minces etc. Prob cost you more though!!
Best treat is a raw bone, try pigs trotter first if you can get them.

Re: Another raw food question
I would avoid the cheapy stuff from supermarkets to be honest, it's probably pumped full of growth hormones and cr@p, which cooking probably degrades to a greater extent, but I personally wouldn't feed it to my dogs, mind you, I wouldn't eat it either!
Ring round a few butchers, finding a helpful butcher is an absolute God send, mine only charges me £2.50 for a huge box of chicken, which is good quality free range, enough for a week for two Labradors. It's the stuff they would normally sell to restaurants to cook and make stock with, all human grade chopped up and ready to feed to your dog, most of the meat has been stripped off, it's usually the backs I get. ![]() |

Re: Another raw food question
Hi,
have a look at Hobbs sticky post (the first one here). You will get a general idea about raw feeding cats, how much bones and offal they need. Personally, I buy beef, chicken & Co. in Tesco or at butcher's 1 - 2 times a week as it is not complete cat food. Funnily, my cats never want to eat half-price offers from supermarkets, it's a waste of money. What quality is it? ![]() At the moment I'm feeding cat raw food from "Natural Instict" + Bozita wet food. The problem with NI is the packaging. 450 gramms are too much even for two cats but I try to de-frost the meat a little to be able to cut it in smaller pieces and re-frost it. Ok, I know it's not that safe but so much meat doesn't survive 2-3 days in the fridge. |

She
![]() Also, check this out: divvy raw question number 3001 Don't forget that you can feed up to 20% of their weekly meals as raw food that doesn't follow the proper ratios (80 meat including heart, 10 or less bone, 5% liver and 5% other offal). Agree with SL, a great relationship with your local butchers is a godsend. |

![]() Thanks folks, it's just all very confusing and so many questions. I'm just wanting to do it as a treat just now and not sure of the best thing to get for them to start with? |

Re: Another raw food question
Don't think there is a best thing. How about getting some cheap braising or stewing steak, cutting it up into cubes or fettucini type strips? Or a bit of lamb? Or some chicken (don't bother with breast though) or Morrisons do already diced turkey thigh.
