What age to neuter?

We're getting a male kitten, and was wondering if there was a right age to neuter males. I was planning on booking him in when he is 6 months old, eventhough he won't be going outside.

Is 6 months okay or shall I wait until he's older? Last thing I want is him escaping and impregnating a female.

6 months is fine, wouldn't wait any longer than that.

Re: What age to neuter?

I wouldn't wait longer than 6 months but all vets seem to be different. Some go by age and some go by weight. It's probably best to give your vet a phone and see what they recommend.

Re: What age to neuter?

Vets said 6 months so will book him in then.

My friend just brought her kitten around, the one I'm supposed to be having though it looks as though he may go to a rescue because of the following photos but still undecided. If I don't take my friends kitten she's going to sell him (I'm not paying money), he's 13 weeks old and think she got in way over her head, he'll go to a rescue as she can't keep him.

Can someone have a look at these photos and tell me what you think of his eye, plus I think he may have fleas and has poop on his paw. The poor thing I really am pretty upset with the condition of him, he's lovely, given my dogs what for already. My head is saying to keep him and take care of me and my heart is saying take him back and contact more rescues.

I don't know what's wrong with his eye but he need to see a vet. Wash the poo of his paw and give him a flea treatment. Rescues are over run with kittens. I would keep him.

Re: What age to neuter?

His eye does look a bit weird, I'd get him checked at the vet. Has he had any vaccinations?

He's just a kitten so he's just getting used to the litter tray, it's not uncommon for them to have poo on their paws. Also cats of any age can get fleas and they are very easily treated.

My two had ear mites when I got them. There can be lots of unexpected bills when you first get a kitten but it's the risk you take.

I think he's gorgeous btw, he's very like my Skye

Re: What age to neuter?

Taking him this afternoon, getting him some advantage and doing the rest of the animals as well. My resident cat came in, they touched noses and she proceeded to meow at me for food.

My dogs are scared of him at the moment lol, Duke even sniffed the cat carrier and he flinched

Hopefully the vets will say it's nothing and it'll go back to normal

Re: What age to neuter?

As far as I am aware he's had two sets of jabs, but I don't want to risk it and will ask my vet about getting him jabbed again just in case he wasn't in the first place.

He will be my first ever HOUSE cat, and I'm putting him onto a raw diet.

Other than his eye he seems healthy, exploring, confident and not hiding away from any of us, and seems a good size. Just going to weigh him now, cos I'm nosey
