Blood in Kittens POO
Hi All,
My kitten oscar has just been for a slightly loose poo with blood in it. Its not the 1st time this has happened, and I have brought it up with the vets who do not seem concerned. Have other people came across this problem before? |

Re: Blood in Kittens POO
What was the poop like? Hard with blood at the end (often a sign of straining) or soft with blood (and possibly mucous) either throughout or at the end?
I would consider feeding a different food. Has he had a poop test? |

Re: Blood in Kittens POO
To be honest it only seems to happen when he has a loose poo, the vet has asked me to keep him on the RC Senstivity for a few more days, then Im going to mix in the Bozita when it arrives. Im not sure if it had a mucus on it, will check if he goes this morn. I might give the vet a call just as a precaution.
Just a worrying look when you still blood in the poo! |

Re: Blood in Kittens POO
Sorry, I am losing track with all the sick kitties on here.
How long has he had the runny tum? How long have you had him and if you only had him for a short time did he have a dodgy tum when you got him? What were you feeding him before/ what was he fed before and was he allegedly good on that? Other than putting him on the sensitive food, what else has the vet done? I vaguely remember you doing a thread on the Bozita because you were looking for a chicken only food. I think I said this before on that thread but Bozita is not a single protein food. PS: Yes, it is worrying to see blood in their poop. The good news is that it goes away when whatever is causing it has been addressed. |

Re: Blood in Kittens POO
He started with a runny tum, about a week before I got him, he was then put on flagyl medicine and pro-kolin, when I got him home I carried on with the same diet, with not much change, the vet has been monitoring him in last week or so just on RC Sensitivity and Pro-Kolin.

Re: Blood in Kittens POO
Just been over your other posts. He had had the RC sensitivity food from around mid-August, right? Now that is an awfully long time for a cat to be on that diet and for you not to see any marked improvements in my opinion.
So, I would just put my foot down at the vets and ask for some tests to be done. Stool sample would be my first port of call to rule out parasites or bacteria. If that comes back clear and there still is no improvement on the RC, then you will need to discuss with your vet appropriate investigations into diet. An elimination diet springs to mind and/or an allergy test (not very definitive but will give you pointers). But first you need to rule out other causes that aren't dietary. |
